Mobil 1 RC question + tip...

I just got this game and am in love!  It is so different from NFS which is
my fav car series ever.

Anyway, when I play in Arcade mode I encounter other cars.  In Sim mode, I
have yet to encounter any other cars, and I came in 9th in one race.  I am
not familiar with how rally races work.  Are the cars started a ways apart
to avoid encounters?  Or, am I just not good? :)

On a side note, I have a PII450 with 384MB RAM, CL Voodoo2 12MB.  When I
first started playing, the game would pause VERY briefly (half a
second or so) every now and then during a race and then continue.  It
was irritating (especially if you were in a tricky section).  If you
have Win98 you can run msconfig and turn off resident programs.  I turned
off a lot of stuff (Norton, etc) leaving only two things on and the game
runs seamlessly now.

Hi Thomas,

Yep in arcade mode you get other cars but in pure simulation mode with the
mobile 1 and the A8 cars you will not see any other cars. Basically in a
rally the cars start off at gapped intervals, if you are good you catch up
with the one stepped ahead of you but in the sim this does not occur. But if
you look at the top of the screen you will see the time interval of the car
in front of you and behind you. Believe me if there were cars in the
simulation mode you would never get the fireworks!!

cheers

alan.

In real rallies the cars start with 1 minute intervals. This is not modeled
accurately in RC, all opponents have already raced when it's your turn.
That's why the game is able to compare your times during the race.
