First off let me say that I OWN every game papy has ever done,I also own
gp1,  gp2, F1RS,F1200, Toca,and Toca2  I tried the warez version of gpl,
viper racing,
F1200 and now gp3.And like the games before, when GP3 hits the stores I will
put my money down.I have often wondered whats it's like to ride a horse that
only turns
to the right....Zealots the lot of you.
There is plenty of negative stuff I could say about GP3 but that's been
done to death. Looks like he (GG)has become a child of a lesser God,oh well
 life goes on!

The rain, its something else,I spent 2 hours hotlaping at Hungary last nite
and I have to say it's the best  rain effects yet hands down, sure the
physics may
not be perfect, but the look is fantastic.1280x1024 details max V5 p3 800 at
920 O at 60% no cars and 85% full field.

I was wondering whether you noticed the game running faster with
"single-chip" selected in 3dfx tools, than it does with the
"fastest-performance" setting?  When I select 'fastest-performance' the game
becomes extremely slow.  Not the games fault, by the way, just something to
do with the V5 or it's drivers.

The rain is excellent.  I love it when it's raining only on one side of the
track, and one section is totally wet but the rest is dry.  Trying to
tip-toe your way through the wet bit, because you know wet tyres would be
too slow round the rest of the track.  Also having to figure out when it
becomes wet enough to need Intermediates, Wets or Monsoon tyres.  It adds
another dynamic to race planning and strategy and you have to be able to
think clearly whilst driving.

I only hope this feature will be adopted by other sims in the future (apart
from ones where it isn't in the real sport, of course).

Yes It ran much faster with single-chip selected,I was concerned at first
when I was running with the fastest performance setting.

Hi Simon!! How do you like your V5 so far?? I am quite enjoying mine,
indeed!! Thus far I have been able to get it working for every game that I
have loaded (about 15 in total) and I am achieving wonderful visuals and
high fps!!!

From Devon Hill in Calgary , Canada.

Hi,
It's extremely fast in pretty much everything.  However in GP3 I have to
select "single-chip" in the anti-aliasing section to get the game running
the right speed.  You might want to remember that if you're going to buy GP3
(as I will) on Friday.  I think there might still be a few bugs in the
drivers.  Hopefully that'll be fixed soon.
In Quake 3 Arena, it looks and runs really sweet.  It's also very nice with
Thief, Thief 2 and System shock 2.  Also 4x FSAA looks very impressive in
GPL.
:)

Simon.

I have to say that it disappoints me somewhat that the only major
positive that appears in the majority of pro-GP3 posts is the rain
implementation.

I haven't tried the warez and I'm not going to but I have to wonder what
will happen when the novelty of wet weather racing wears off, and <gasp>
what will happen when we have to race in the dry?

So far I have stuck to dry weather racin to learn the tracks, and thinks its a
blast, quite a rush with the speeds these things can take the corners.

Graeme,

I was a bit disappointed at first when I got it, but I have fiddled about
with a few settings and now it is VERY smooth and is great racing and fun to
play.  It needs care and attention......it is definitely an excellent game,
perhaps it is not quite the excellent game we were hoping for, but one
nonetheless.  Also a major thing is that the default setups offer far too
much grip and to get the most out of it you need to lessen the wings etc.

Graeme, buy it on Friday (if you can).....I promise you will not regret it

You hypocrite. :-)
People said the AI is much better than F12K in GP3. Well, in my
evaluation copy at Hockenhiem I see massive pileups in the first turn
and the AI cars keep hitting me from behind too. Doesn't seem any
better than F12K to me in that area. Only thing is that in F12K I can
hear them behind me, which is something I really hate the lack of in
GP2/3.

thus spoke:

Don't know what frame rate. But, it was smooth at 640x480 4X FSAA.
Didn't try higher res because I'm using a hack that gets rid of the
frame rate limiter and it only works at 640x480. Usually when I run
any sim with 4X FSAA I run it at 640x480, but not always.
