Burnout: Impressions of a former, NON-Drag Racing Fan

Okay, I used to think that it was just too damn boring to watch Drag
Racing, but now I've changed my mind. Burnout is just plain fun.
Here's a synopsis, but keep in mind that I am *very* new to Drag
Racing and it's idiosyncrasies:

The Good:
=========
1> It's ***ing as hell.
2> It's got decent graphics.
3> It's got about 1 million options to play with!
4> It's going to be multiplayer.
5> It's a racing sim. :-)

The Bad:
=======
1> Typical, terrible Bethesda manual. My god, this is a sim and should
have a huge manual - like the one included with F15 from Jane's.
2> Controls are hard to get a handle on. I seem to have joystick creep
no matter what I do or what joystick I use - I do not have this
problem with any other game.
3> The included setups are terrible.
4> It's bracket racing.
5> No paintkit.
6> The sounds - they seem to be kind of weak to me. Should have more
thunder to them.
7> No multiplayer - yet.

The Ugly (or Subhumanoid, if you are Troma):
========================================
1> The manual. Yes, I know I listed it twice, but for someone like me
with no Drag Racing background it is really a big problem.
2> Still has a few bugs - random lockups/crashes.
3> No***pit.

Overall comments:
================
This game/sim is ***ing as hell! I am dying for the multiplayer to
go online at Mplayer. this game screams out for it like no other. I
don't have much time for tweaking, but I sure have time for racing, so
in a way it is good that it is bracket racing.

Overall I am very happy with this game purchase and anyone else with a
remote interest in Drag Racing should go buy it.

I just discovered if you hit 0 on your keyboard while racing
you get a nice explosion with flames and everything!
Give it a try.

You can run "Heads up" which is not a bracket, but the fastest run wins.

I think the sounds are very good.  Of course that could be the
combination of a good subwoofer and a 4000+ hp monster!

Burnout works great with Kali right now. You can usually find quite a
few Burnout racers at the "Where to Race" server on Kali, everyday there
are more and more.

I have read that Bethesda might add a***pit view. I was dissapointed
that it didn't have one at first. But, I think the hood view works
really well and will probably still use it even if a***pit view
becomes available.

Welcome aboard!!<G>

I don't have the manual, so I can't comment.

This is only with "automatic" transmissions".

Like in all sims, they are just "baselines". So they are going to need some twea
king.. Though, they are setup for "bracket racing".

There's headup and 10.9, 9.9, 8.9 class racing..

Suggested this. I hope it comes.

Hmm.. Odd.. I have my subwoofers turned up.. I have no problem with it.

Currently you can go on Kali. Lots of drivers are having fun there. We are curre
ntly testing it on Mplayer.

The ideal scenario would be 32 human drivers. Though Mplayer has a max for 50 pl
ayers in a game. I would like to see it to 64 racers.. BUT, you can do 32 human d
rivers and 32 AIs..

What version are you running?? The "software or 3dfx" version? The software vers
ion was known for "lock ups".

BTW, the patch is out.

Being ressolved now. THEY ARE COMING. Though, I really don't know why you would
really want a***pit, since you are only going straight. I use the telmetry alot

Ya, racing against 5-6 second 66 mustangs are very realistic.
In other words, you still race against cars which are out of your
class. OTOH, since it is Sportsman class racing everything is
in your class.
