ICR controller help..

by Andrew Heckm » Wed, 08 Dec 1993 03:50:20

Hello fellow netters,

I was wondering if anyone else playing Indy car racing and
Indy 500 was having problems with their controllers.  I am trying to
play them using a Quickshot Intruder flight yoke.  What seems to be
happening is in the straight aways the car is fine, but when I go into
a corner the car jerks around and it seems that it shows the screen moving
at a frame at a time.  This does not happen when I use my normal joystick.
It is almost like in the corners it losese contact with the controller.
It does a sudden jerk to the right and does the frame at a time bit and then
clears up til the next corner, but doesn't do it every time.  I have tried
it with both the linear and non-linear options and it still does it.
I am running version 1.02 of ICR on a 386dx 40 with 4 megs.  With the
joystick everything works fine.

Thanks for any help,
        Andrew

Sorry for resending this but I realized that it did not have the right

FWIW...

I could see a couple of possibilities here:

1. Did you go to the Options menu and re-calibrate with
the other joystick?  Different controllers feed the
system at different rates.  If you originally calibrate
the game for one joystick, then change, you could
   experience some very strange behaviour.

2. It could be that the controller you're having problems
with generates so much output that the PC is spending all
of it's time processing interrupts from the port chip
(guessing your running off the serial port).  This tends
to manifest itself more on relatively slower machines
(i.e. 386 vs 486) in addition to which serial port UART
   the manufacturer used.
