GP2 - is there a demo available?

by Marc » Thu, 02 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Since some people in this NG refuse to give up GP2 in favour of F1RS,
I have to see what the big deal is about.

I have little to no experience playing this game, and would like to
know what the big deal is about.  According to some, it is a more
realistic F1 sim (whatever that means).  I feel that F1RS is pretty
damn realistic myself, but don't have GP2 or actual F1 race experience
to make a very good case either way.

Can I get a demo of GP2 anywhere?  I've looked at numerous games sites
and on MicroProse's site, but came up empty-handed.  Does one even
exist?

Hi Mark,

the answer is probably not... not on the Net, anyway. But at LIVE 96
(Computer show in London) a charity was giving away GP2 demo CDs, GP2
T-shirts, badges, and such, if you contributed to the charity. The demo
in the CD contained very little of the full game, too little perhaps to
let you appreciate what a good game it is. (I haven't played F1RS, so I
won't be comparing). Unfortunately, I have no idea about where you could
still get those demo CDs...

Good Luck with your search,
Mickey

PS: Just my advice: if you can find GP2 on sale for a cheap price, buy
it. Then go to some decent GP2 web site (Sjon's GP2 Homepage is probably
the best one - http://VOLftp.tin.it/GP2/index.html ), download
EVERYTHING, and enjoy.

I got a demo from an issue of PC Gamer. This only let me race at Monza, but
even that was enough to persuade me to buy the full game.

You mean to tell me that I have to search for a 2 year old PC Gamer
magazine in order to play a demo of the game?
It's not worth the trouble IMO.

How can they not post the demo on their webpage for downloading?

This and the fact that MicroProse hasn't even made an attempt to patch
GP2 with some sort of 3D accleration, has lead me to believe that they
obviously don't care that much about gaining customers.

What are you up to?

Do you want to play GP2, or do you have a "hidden agenda" (bashing Microprose)?

Anyway: both things seem to be enjoyable...  :-)

No hidden agenda.

I hear from some how GP2 is so great and since GP3 is on the drawing
board,  I wanted to know what type of quality I can expect and also
find out how it compares to F1RS.  Reading this NG has gotten me
interested/curious in GP2.

I just don't understand why a demo isn't available for download off
the net.  No 3D support is available either.  I just pointed out that
Microprose isn't interested in gaining any new customers with GP2.  I
don't think that's bashing, it's just the truth.

I would love to try GP3 when it's available..

GP2 - is there a demo available?

by Tim Deatherag » Sat, 04 Apr 1998 04:00:00

About 4-5 months ago, when I joined this NG ( I had N2 and CART(Sierra) at
the time)
I knew that I had to find GP2 because everyone was talking about IT AND it
was being discontinued.... effective 12/31 ! ! ! !.

Therefore, I was lucky enough to find it at a local Hastings and I bought
it... price unknown and I have had lots of fun ever since !!!! It has many
good qualities that are great for fast non-3d equipped pc's.  I have to say
that I still play CART because I like the ovals.

I'm looking forward to GP 3

Thanks Microprose!

Tim
