I've been using the GP1 for about a year now and I love it. Easy to set up and
modify if you feel like it. Thrustmaster's support is good( except  post
Christmas! ), and it's very inexpensive! I've even bought a new one for racing
with friends. The hand controls work very well for me, my motorcycle backround
I believe.

While we're on the subject does anyone know if there is a gas/brake
console on the market that is sold separately?  I cannot find one in the
stores and it doesn't seem like Thrustmaster even carries one.

BTW, am I the only one who has trouble staying awak while playing N2?
I think watching things "fly by" is hypnotic....

CH sell a good set of pedals seperately.  They combine well with the GP1
and allow you to use the paddles as gear shifts, just like in real F1.

I'm in the process of looking for a good driving wheel/pedal setup as well.
I was thinking I'd wait till Thrustmaster releases it's forcefeedback wheel,
and if it isnt that expensive I was thinking about getting that, otherwise I
was planning on getting the T2.  I did like someone elses suggestion about
getting the Formula 1 wheel from Thrustmaster, and pedals from CH, so I could
shift like the real F1 cars do... but I'd rather have Force Feedback if I can
get that.
I was also thinking about going so far as to make a seat/cockpit type thing I
could attach everything too.  I realize there are sets for sale, but I think
I could build one for less, sometimes, a LOT less.  If anyone has any
suggestions about building a***pit/seat type thing, email me or post your
suggestions here.

If your budget allows, you should REALLY add the CH Pedals to the GP1.
Applying
gas and brake with your hands is as weird as using a flightstick, IMHO.
And you
are able to shift gears with the wheel pedals, which is very close to a
real F1
configuration...

I don't think, FF wheels will be affordable AND usefull anytime soon.

Make that a TM GP1 + CH Pedals. The Formula 1 has floor pedals, no wheel
pedals.

Those CH flight pedals will cost me 4 times more to buy than my wheel!
Besides, I always have a real racecar to drive later this year when I
want my real force feedback and realism!

Come again?? The combo TM GP1 + CH Pedals should be less than the
TM Nascar wheel, but has better features (IMHO) and you can use the CH
Pedals
for flight sims, too.

Maybe you are mixing up the CH Pedals with the expensive TM Flight
Pedals?

Prices in Australian dollars

CH Flight pedals = $269.95
Thurstmaster GP1 = $149.95
Total = $419.90
vs.
Nascar Pro = $349.95
Advantage 1 = $399 (www.ferrarodesign.com.au)

I bought my GP1 for only $70 (special deal with the rep from the
supplier), so now you can see why this combo is not an option at all.
To get an idea of how much we are ripped off in Australia, multiply
those prices by 0.65 to get the US dollar price.

CH Flight Pedals = US$175
GP1 = US$97
Nascar Pro = US$227

I feel for you, but prices in Europe are on a higher level than the US,
too!
BUT: The CH Pedals (that's the product name here) are NEVER more
expensive
than the TM GP1. If I remember correctly, I paid about US$60 for Pedals
and
about US$80 for the GP1. Maybe you're talking about the CH Pro Pedals?
