Best steering wheel to buy?

by Greg Loe » Fri, 27 Sep 1996 04:00:00

I have a feeling this has been asked before, but here goes:

What's the best steering wheel to buy?  After picking up
GP2 the other day, I am in love, and need to buy something
better than a joystick.  Should I get this Thrustmaster
T2 thing???

TIA,

Greg.

Check out the July issue of Sim Racing News,
where there is a feature on a Wheel/Pedal survey,
at http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~harmon/simnews/

Cheers!

You Wrote,

I have a small personal review for the T2 and the TSW wheel controller
on my Web site under the bullet "Wheel controller review". I have just
started my web site so not much else is there right now.

My site is http://www.ntsource.com/~thayer/

I hope this helps a little. I like the TSW wheel for GP2.

I ordered a GP-500 recently although I won't see it for another 7
weeks until I get to New Zealand (where its being delivered
direct).   I have to be honest and say that my decision of GP500
over Thrustmaster T2 was based purely on the fact that the GP500
has gear change paddles on the back of the wheel whereas the T2
has a seperate gear lever.   I guess I'll find out soon enough
whether it was the right decision !

If money isn't a 1st priority issue, I'd advise you to collect some
information on the TSW (Thomas Super Wheel). Although the T2 is much
better than its predecessor, the notorious T1, it's far from being
perfect.

For more info on the TSW jump in at

to get a start.

I'm a TSW owner, too and I run the "TSW Support Center Europe". I'd

Also the ECCI CDS and the GP500 are worthy of consideration. The CDS
is more expensive than the TSW but I've heard some good things about
it. I have a GP500 and whilst it has one or two quirks is very
realistic once you get it set up right! As you'ld have to import this
from the UK though, it would be quite expensive.

You can find info on all three wheels in Sim Racing News at

I've tried several and the ECC CDS is the easiest to setup, easiest (most
comforatble) to use and the best build quality. I bought one and have
never regretted it. Customer support are superb (though I've never had a
problem they have kept me up to date with advice, and information on
upgrades etc.
