.NET - JIT Debugging Help Needed

by Rudebo » Fri, 23 Jul 2004 06:15:07

Might have asked here before when SCC came out but here goes again.

I am still having the JIT De*** errors with .NET that won't let me into
the SCC Launcher. It's becoming a bigger and bigger issue as now Porsche
Supercup and probably future add-ons have to be started with the launcher.

The problem is: About 80% of the time when I try and start the SCC launcher
I get a <<Common Language Runtime Debugging Services>> message followed by a
<<No de*** found>> message. This has something to do with the JIT
debugging in .NET but I can't figure out what or how to fix it.  SCC it's
self runs fine and I can launch it directly with the .exe.

The weird thing is that it does this on about 80% of the boot ups the other
20% of the time the Launcher works fine. If it works on the boot up it will
always work on that boot up. You can start SCC through the launcher, shut it
down, open up other programs, and five hours later you can still start the
launcher no problem. But if it doesn't work on a boot up it will never work
on that boot up.

Some one suggested changing the Machine.config file to read true instead of
false for the JIT Debugging but that didn't help.

One possibility is that when SCC was released and it said it needed .NET
Framework 1.1 I went to Microsoft and downloaded and halfassed installed
.NET Framework 1.1 SDK when I realized I it wasn't the SDK that I needed I
uninstalled it and downloaded and installed .NET Framework 1.1. I've since
uninstalled, redownloaded and reinstalled .NET Framework 1.1 a couple of
times with no difference.  However I'm beginning to think that maybe some
part of the SDK lurks around in my HDD causing trouble.   Still it's odd
that it sometimes works.

From what I've read and what little I comprehend I don't need the JIT
De***. That it's a development tool.  As I've stated above I uninstalled
the SDK but are there still registry keys I need to get into to root it out.

Thanks

My magic 8 ball suggested you might just need to bite the bullet and do a
format and re-install.  ;)

Sounds like they have an unhandled error in their code and your just seeing
the results of it.  If your getting a JIT error then something in the code
has failed.

Man, that's tough luck if this should turn out to be the "solution" to
your problem. That is exactly the point why I have not yet brought
myself to installing thist .net **** just to run a mod or two. But
then, I'm still on loss98se which runs fine for all my *** needs
(everything else is 100% Linux here ;-)

Good luck,

uwe

Do you know if you have the latest version of .net?   I beleive SCC runs
best with version 1.1xxxx of .net.   Try re-installing just the .net
runtime files first...before wiping everything clean.

dh
btw...have you done the simple things like checking for spyprograms and
virus' and making sure you don't have a-lot of background programs running?

Why this hatred of dot net?  Its not much more than a combination of Visual
Basic and C++ both of which you run on 98.

If anything .NET is a much cleaner way to install applications than previous
ways.  People just hate it since it is from MS.    I develop with .NET
everyday and would not want to go back to previous ways.
The .NET framework is nothing more than basically the runtime libraries that
applications run on.

Hatred? Hardly. Indifference: yes. ;-)

My guess would be they dont understand it, so it gets blaimed for system
problems that existed b4 yet hadnt reared their ugly heads yet.

Ok, OK. I didn't mean for this to become a MS bashing thread (or a MS
apologist thread either ;-) I just want a solution.

So Schooner do you know if JIT Debugging is part of .Net Framework 1.1?  Or
is it part of the .NET Framework 1.1 SDK?  And if so how do I remove it
completely including Registries?  And do you think that will solve things?

Thanks.

Ya it was the latest .NET version 1.1.
I have a pretty minimal bootup so there shouldn't be much running in the
background.  But I'll try shutting down various XP background stuff.
I don't think I have a virus or spyware but I'll do an other scan just
incase. (What would you suggest for a spyware sweeper?)
What do you mean "just the runtime files"?  What are they and where do I
find them?

Thanks

The JIT debugging error is probably due to the SDK install however that
shouldn't matter.  The point is an error is happening with the program to
cause that to show up.
If reinstalling the framework doesn't help then again it is probably an
error in the program's code itself and little you can do other than contact
the authors.

.NET - JIT Debugging Help Needed

"Rudeboy" <

I use both adaware 6 and Spybot.  They both seem to pick up stuff missed
.
Although, Adaware seems to find a few more things after Spybot is done.
The runtime files was my reference to the .net stuff.  I just wanted to
make sure you had the files needed to run .net code.  So uninstall and then
re-install .net.  Did you get any installation errors?   Another option
would be to dload the non installer version of SCC and unrar it manually.
You'd need to go to RaceSimCentral's SCC forum and get a premade driver.
The .net usage is by the SCC loader only.  If you can bypass that, then the
.net isn't needed.  Of course you can use the nifty featurers like the
headlight activation, carlocker, track stats etc.

I had the demo previously installed and there was a 2nd SCC  exe file.  IT
had a longer file name than the loader(which is scc.exe)  With the demo
exe, you can launch directly to SCC, again skipping the SCC loader.

good luck

Ran Adware 6, everything clean.

Uninstalled .NET Framework 1.1.  Manually erased Microsoft.NET folder in
Windows that was still*** around.  Downloaded .NET Framework 1.1 again
from Windows update.  Installed.  No instalation errors. Same problem.

Sorry I've asked about this in a few places I'm not sure that I mentioned it
here but SCC works perfectly fine from the .exe.  It's only the Installer
that there is an issue with, that's why I didn't push the issue before, in
that I could use SCC perfectly although your right I missed out a few
options in the Launcher.  But now Porsche Cup is out you can't really start
it without the Installer.  Also I suspect that in the future more and more
Mods will use it too.

I never installed the SCC demo so I didn't have anything*** around from
it.

Schooner is probably right that there is some small error in the SCC
Launcher code that's launching the JIT de*** but it must be pretty
inocuous because everyone else runs it with no problem.
I still think that the problem is some SDK stuff*** around in the
Registry.  Does anyone know how to clean it out?

Thanks.
