Goodwoood; '67 F1 cars in action!

I have just come back from The Goodwood Festival Of Speed, and lucky me,
there was Dan Gurney, John Surtees, Jack Brabham among others. Also the
'67 Eagle and Honda RA300 were driven with anger, and there was the last
surviving Lotus 49 on display. I USED my camera:-)

Now I know what caught the spectators imagination in those days.......

And I know what those cars should sound like, and look like. We're a bit
off at the mo! :-)

Matt...what do you mean by the *LAST* Lotus 49?  There were two of them in
Adelaide.  Do you mean the last of the *original* cars?

Yes, the one still being as raced in 67...this car is one of the Zandvoort
cars. The others are later 49s, either B's,
or rebulit back to 49.

Whew!  Yes....I thought that's what you meant.  The two in Adelaide were
indeed, 'B' models.  The original shape, without the front winglets (before
the duck-tail rear end) was certainly the nicest of range.

Pete Lovely has a Lotus 49B! He won a historic race in Austraila
with it! There is more than one around!

Mark my words, "49" not "49B" :)
Major difference, there are lots, tons of 49Bs, they were sold in '68 -> to
anyone who wanted them!

This is very true. Pete Lovely's car is the '67 Zandvoort winner. Apparently
when Pete Lovely purchased  it, Colin Chapman offered to give it a later
chassis number (from what by then was a one year 'old' car), so that if he
wanted to sell it later, there would be a better market for it! This is as
we now know, not untypical of Lotus......

During the coverage of the Formula Adelaide races, the statement was made it
had only recently been discovered that Pete Lovely's Lotus was infact the
chassis used by Jim Clark at Zandvoort in 1967. I don't know how true this
is.

Lovely ran the car at the Sears Point "F-1 Reunion" in 1997.  He has it
in the 1968 style, high wing configuration with the whole "Gold Leaf Team
Lotus" paint/design scheme.  It's really breath taking.  I've got some
photos of it I could scan if anyone would like to see it.

I have 2 original photos of Jim in the Lotus 49T (2.5 litre) in the Tasmans
Series in 1968.   :-)
