Training module in F1CS2K

by Tex » Thu, 15 Mar 2001 04:15:45

I've recently gotten into sim-racing, and have put down more laps than I can
count on GPL and N4.  I've read a couple of books and applied their
principles to achieve a small measure of improvement.  I recently saw F1CS2K
at my local EB for $20, and I've read in reviews that it has a training
module in it.  Is this module worth the price of the sim at $20 to a newbie
racer?  It seems that it would be, even if the rest of the game isn't the
best, as most racing books out there are about $20, and it would seem to be
worth it to have something to actually apply any given lesson to whenever I
wanted to practice something, rather that reading from a book and then
trying to apply it to a sim.

Any thoughts are appreciated.  Thanks!

The "Driving School" mode puts you through a series of "tests" that
you must pass -- I thought it was helpful, and it did help my times in
F1CS2K.  All in all, I would say that it sounds like you would enjoy
F1CS2K, especially with the "All Chassis Patch" that gives you
advanced physics (shameless plug).  You can get that, plus lots of
setups and add-ons at the Blackhole Motorsports site.

FWIW, I'd say that F1CS2K is DEFINITELY worth the $20 investment if
you're a true sim racing fan.

P.S.  There's even an F1CS2K Rank site (like the GPLRank site), so you
might want to check that out if/when you pick it up.

Buy it and then download official patch and then the AllChassis patch at
(http://www.bhmotorsports.com/...look in the F1CS2000 area under "Utilities"
then "Patches") . I don't have N4 (or a video card that supports it yet...and
I'm not much of a NASCAR fan, but it's Son of GPL, so one of these days...), but
this is the most fun I've had in a simulator outside GPL. The traning actually
worked for me in the sim.

yes, definately. The rest of the game can be a pain thou, especially
if you don't own cutting edge hardware.
