Slightly Off-topic - GPL & SyGate / Wingate

by Jo » Tue, 17 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hi everybody.

My two PC's are connected in a LAN. PC1 is normally used for Multimedia
Processing, the other is my workstation for al the other stuff, Work &
Internet.
In order to use the Multimedia PC1 as a GPL Server I need to share the
Internet connection.
This leads to the following configuration:
PC1: Multimedia & GPL-Server with Internet connection.
PC2: Work & GPL-client.

But: I also need Internet Access on PC2.
The Solution seems to be either Sygate or Wingate.

Before I order one of these products, I would like to hear some opinions
from some users.
Which one is better?

I'm currently testing Sygate, the major drawback is the
need to logon to the Multimedia PC, which is in a different room. Not really
a big problem, but simply not nice.

Is Sygate or Wingate able to be run as a service in WindowsNT?

Is anybody using one of these programs?

Thanks,

Joachim.

Hi,

Yes. Hosting with the direct connected PC1. PC2 will connect via LAN.

How? I checked the box "run as a service", but it doesn't work.
I have to log on, and then start sygate manually. The client is not able
to connect to sygate server, or establish an internet connection.
("phase 0.....couldn't find sygate server").

It may be your setiings in the core.ini. Due to the small bandwith of the
usual tcp/ip connection to the internet, GPL just transmits some cars in
front, and some in the back of the clients car. The only reliable replay is
the server's.

Sure. On the other hand, if I'm not hosting myself, I want to connect my
client (PC2-connected to the internet via sygate)  to an external (somewhere
on the internet) server.
Could this be a problem?

Thanks in advance.

Joachim

I am using Sygate 3.0, because it installed and setup in minutes, and
not the hours I spent stuffing around with Winproxy and Wingate.
Downloaded the demo, installed, set it up, works like a dream.
I never have to manually load mine either, it simply starts itself.
Don't need to start it on th eother machine either. I haven't tried
any online *** though because most ISPs in Australia have pathetic
pings and ***d badnwidth to the rest of the world.

*waiting for cable*
