Off to Spa/Nurburgring next week :)!

by evente.. » Sat, 10 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Finally got my trip confirmed - I'll be checking out Spa and the 'Ring
when I get done with work (Thurs and Fri, hopefully).  I'll also be
upgrading my rental to an Audi A4 when I get to Belgium :).
What's the procedure for getting on the track at the 'Ring?  How much
does it cost, and what are any etiquette rules for a slowpoke ;)?
I'll be spending my entire Saturday night practicing in GPL...

Look here: http://www.nuerburgring.de/eng/frame_04.htm for opening
times.

When you are at the Ring look for signs 'Touristenfahrten', they will
lead you to the entrance of the Northern Loop.
There you have to buy tickets at costs of 21 Deutschmarks (~10$).
Just be careful in your first lap, you will be surprised how steep(?)
the track is. Look in your mirrors, especially if you visit the Ring
Saturday/Sunday. Watch out for the bikes, because they drive completly
different than the cars. Don't be surprised if you will meet some
busses, camping-cars etc. on the track :)

But it is a GREAT experience.
ENJOY :)))

Off to Spa/Nurburgring next week :)!

It depends.  If you're Andre, you have to pick a day it's closed.
Everyone else goes when it's open, which next week will only be:

Friday 16 June, 17.15 - 19.30
Sunday 18 June,  8.00 - 19.30

That may suit you fine, considering you have to go after working
hours.

You need cash, in multiples of DM 21, to insert at the ticket
dispenser at the parking lot that gives access to the
Nordschleife.  Don't worry, the machine gives change when
appropiate.

Slow pokes identify themselves as such by indicating right and
staying right whenever faster drivers appear behind them.  This
only works when it's not crowded.  When it is, everyone more or
less seems to fence for themselves.  Other than that, I've found
the above procedure to work quite well (even for slower pokes
than me).

I've heard that for most beginners three laps is a good number.
I did that when I first went, and I agree.

I'd join you if my car didn't need new brakes and tires from my
last trip.  As it is, it'll be July 9 before I can return.

Have FUN!

-Laurens de Jong, The Netherlands.

Shut up Laurens :)

Tomorrow I can finally pick up my brand new car (peugeot 106, no
comments please, my boss pays) so I will visit the Ring very soon...
I will let you know when I go Laurens, my revenge will be sweet :)

Whilst you're in Spa make sure you keep the noise down.  The England
football team are based their for Euro 2000 and need all the rest and
relaxation they can get.  If they don't beat Germany a week on Saturday I
hold you personally responsible :-)

England...England...England..

Three lions on their shirt, Jules Rimet still gleaming, 30 years of hurt,
never stopped me dreaming...its coming home, its coming home, its coming,
football's coming home

Sorry, the football supporting side of my brain took over from the race sim
side for a moment.  Its under control now, honest.

Cheers

Phil

I havn't seen this months Evo mag yet, but theres lots of Nordschleife stuff
in it.

Check here for track opening times:

http://www.nuerburgring.de/eng/angebote/sf_n_02.htm
http://www.nuerburgring.de/eng/angebote/sf_n_03.htm

Have fun, and watch out for those bikes/locals coming up fast behind you -
signal and move right to let them through (its a one way public toll road,
hence in theory everyone should overtake on the left)
