Can-Am anyone?

Folks,

Many of us have had the chance to run the GPL demo,
very promising sim engine. Now, does anyone but me want to
see a Can-Am sim? I'd really like the chance to run a Shadow
around Watkins Glen, or a bright orange McLaren with a Silver
wing!

The first lap that I completed ( without crashing ) that very thought
flashed through my mind ( as I came into turn 1 , way too hot , crashing
yet again ). Just give it some time and I'm sure there will be
modifications that allow for Can Am cars to race this GREAT sim.

You read my mind.  Let's also include the TRANS-AM series also.  That
would be really wonderful to have the option to race old the old neat
cars that the drivers really had to drive.  They are controlled
projectiles.

Guys,

There IS a Trans-Am sim coming out for all you history buffs of the late
60's.  I am also a huge CAN-AM fan.  I was raised in upstate NY and raced
SCCA as Watkins Glen was my home track for the Glen Region.

Speaking of SCCA...  does anyone know what Tommy Kendall is running this
season ??
The SCCA TA page is down and i watched the first race where Paul
Gentilozzi ran away with it with the new Corvette.  However that wouldnt
have happened if Tommy were running =)

Well, if you want to see Kendall in action, you will have to watch stock
car auto racing... That's right, Kendall is running in the IROC series,
this year, and only in that series. That's only 4 races... He already
has a DNF at Daytona after a crash.

A Trans-Am sim... that sounds interesting. Well any type of game
simulating 4 wheel racing is nice. Anyone interested in running the 1911
Indy 500 racing sim?

<<> Speaking of SCCA...  does anyone know what Tommy Kendall is running

Thanks in part to SCCA's colossal mismanagement and rules juggling to
prevent another Kendall runaway, TK is currently without a ride. Doesn't
it strike you as absolute nonsense that the winningest driver in the
history of TransAm, overwhelming champion in 1997, is waiting for Roush
to decide what they're going to do? Dorsey Schroeder is in the same
boat.

I don't know how or why SCCA Pro decided to allow the Corvettes to run,
but I always though TransAm was a "sedan" series... Gentilozzi's
absolute runaway win -- looking much like the McLarens in F1 this year
-- is, IMHO, a harbinger of the end of TransAm racing as we have known
it. Nobody wants to spend the money to run for second place, and once
again, Chevrolet has pulled out of a series it could no longer win on
its own merits, and then has come back under the table to support this
Corvette effort. They did the same thing in NASCAR and sports car racing
in the '60s.

You can blame the SCCA for a lot of things, but not for putting the skids on
TK's career. Everyone at Roush knew they were not returning to the series long
before the end of the season. TK had an offer from Jack to do the truck deal
and Tommy waited too long, hoping for a CART ride, which he richly deserves
IMHO. Now TK's stuck in IROC and walkin' pit lanes. I hope he can find
something soon, somebody at LeMans must need a co-driver!

I spent a long time at Long Beach Saturday checking out the Trans Am cars while
waiting for the rain to stop....Saunders and Gentilozzi are obviously the big
spenders right now, no one else really comes close, but it didn't seem to me
that his cars were significantly different than the others, just newer. They
spent the entire weekend chasing little new car gremlins, but they have a good
crew and got both cars race ready. Saunders comfortably ran mid-pack, which is
usual for him, and Paul lead, which was expected in light of the competition.
There is a lot of good talent in Trans Am right now, but no one has the budget
to compete with the HighwayMaster Vettes. It wouldn't be the first time a high
buck team has ruled the roost in Trans Am. Corvettes have a long and storied
history in Trans Am and I for one like seeing them out there. Jeez, how many
Mustangs do you need to see in one race? I don't even like Corvettes all that
much, but I do like variety on the track. I'd like to see them go back to the
days when there were more European cars as well as American Iron running in the
series.

Anyway...back to sims, sure hope the stories about the Trans Am sim are true! I
got first dibs on the Sunoco Camaro!

Agreed.    In addition to the hopes of a CART ride that you mentioned,
Tommy also is said to have pushed a pretty hard bargain in contract
negotiations.     Apparently, the breaking point was over Tommy
getting his Roush Mustang that he won the last two T/A titles in.   At
that point, Roush decided to go with a circle track racer.
Ironically, I think Roush still has all their TransAm cars.

It's just too bad that one of America's best road racers (two if you
count Dorsey) is out of a job.

Don, it's too bad you didn't post something about being at Long Beach
earlier.    I was crewing on the nos. 12 and 92 Mustangs.     We were
a little busy, but I'd have been glad to show you around.   By the way
sim racers, there have been a few times when Mike Lewis, the driver of
the number 12, has used the various Papyrus sims to learn new circuits
before he drove them.
