Monza problems...

Had a very strange thing at Monza yesterday.  Everytime I went to load
Monza GPL would crash.  Tried a few other tracks and they all worked
fine.  After tying loads of different things, I finally replaced the
monza track .dat file and things are now back to normal.  Weird.  Anyone
else get anything like this happen to them?  Running GPL 1.1 by the way.

A variety of things can cause a file to be corrupted.
Such as a power outage or near lightning that causes the
lights to blink.  Or GPL may have a bug, or any other program
including Windows could have a bug that can overwrite
harddrive data.  If you have been programming, you might
have a wild pointer.  Run Scandisk, or some other utility.
I once had a power outage that caused some problems, and
I was able to get a listing of every corrupted file by using
chkdsk (DOS).   I had to reinstall a half dozen games.
If you don't check, some of the bugs caused can be very
subtle and effect gameplay without you ever knowing it is
a corrupted file.   Some people do a complete harddrive
format and reinstall everything including the OS once a year.

Neil,

I haven't had exactly what you describe, but do occasionally get a weird problem
at Monza (GPL 1.1). When I leave the pits the Eagle engine sounds like it is
firing on 3 cylinders and won't rev over about 6000 rpm. Monza is the only track
where this happens, and then only on rare occasions. This is happening online,
and leaving/rejoining the server doesn't help. I have never figured out how to
fix it, other than to race somewhere else and then come back to a different
Monza server. Never happened with GPL 1.0 either.

Keith.
