According to one source, ymenard isn't really Canadian, he just pretends to
be. "Francois", c'est vrai?

That was my point :-) "UK" Covers more than England so in reality we're
in the same boat and original point was a bit wrong :-)

I hate to be pedantic, but the official name of the country is not Eire, but
Poblacht na hEireann (Republic of Ireland). Don't ask me why Eire appears on
our stamps - maybe because the official name would not fit on a stamp.

From an R.A.S.er in Sacramento, California, U.S.A. originally from Dublin,
Republic of Ireland.

Anyhow, you can plonk me for being a pretentious bollocks!!

I know there is usually a flower seller near the alleyway that leads to
Argos, that you?

I don't go into the town center much though.

There are a couple of other sim racers in and around Bromley too....

My country only has one name = England

Whereas GB and UK are a collection of countries....

GB (Great Britain) = The largest island in Europe, comprising England
Scotland and Wales.

UK (United Kingdom) = A kingdom of NW Europe, consisting of Great
Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland.

Whereas, America has possibly three names?

1) America
2) USA
3) North America

Over to you I think.......

North America is the continent.  USA is the country.

I remember, years ago while in Germany, making the mistake of telling
a German friend of mine that English and American were "the same"...
hehehe, it didn't long to correct me!

Thank you, that's the clearest explanation I've ever seen!

Where I come from (Canada) "America" has the following names (only counting
the polite ones <g>):

1. America
2. (the) USA
3. (the) US
4. The States

Note that "North America" is NOT the same as "America'. North America is a
continent comprised of Canada, the US and Mexico, while America is a
country.

Thank you George!! This has been stated here before.... Not that it
really matters but as George states: "North America is the continent"
USA=United States of America & America is kinda a nickname for
USA aka America. Get it kidds? Cheers T.j.

Yes Rob you are basically correct and I always feel bad that our
good neighbors to the north seem to just become forgotten when
North America is "tagged" to only USA... Not to split hairs but I
will, we only have one 'official name' USA [Our abbreviation for
United States of America]..... <g> Cheers Thom_j.

My point exactly... UK is the collective term for a group of nations.
England is the (my) country.
