For those that don't like the feel of micro$oft CART I suggest you try
these 3 things

1 If you have wheel, select joystick from the control menu instead of
"race car controller".  Just like N2, this takes away from the
twichyness a great deal.  Im sure that after you do this you will be
able to get the car going straight on the straights.

2 Use the Julian "Turtle" Data setup from http://www.racesimcentral.net/~joja/
this makes it feel like driving a real car.  Apparently Mr. Data could
do better in a week in the garage than T.R. and Micro$oft could do in
six months.

3. Hack the setup .gar file and increase the wheel lock.  Its real easy
to do, its just in plain text format.  I suggest you double if from what
the game allows.  That's going from .4 to .8.  Now you can get through
the corkscrew b/c you have enough lock.  This idea is also credit of the
above link, specifically Glenn Jay.

Attached is the Julian Data setup with the wheel lock doubled.  Of
course this purely credit to Mr. Data and the above link, I did not make
it, just posting it for your convenience.  Please don't complain about
posting files, this is only 1 KB and could just as easily have been cut
and pasted

after doing the above I can't get enough of Micro$oft CART, where as
before I though it was very poor.

once again none of these are my ideas
thanx to John O'Keefe For the great page,
Glenn Jay for the editing idea, and
Julian Data for the setup

Thanks for the good words on the page, I'm working hard at it. I hate to say
this but there is a new turtle on the block. Try a 1:03.32 at Laguna Seca. I
tried this turtles previous setup and went from a previous best of 1:08.6 to
a 1:05.5 and the car felt absolutely great to drive! The APEX
http://www.quiknet.com/~joja/ will be updated in a few hours to include this
turtles name and setup. You must download it!

Exactly how does all of that stuff improve the crappy graphics? Driving
the course is no problem. I have done decent times in ICR2, so getting
around is not much of a big deal. Dealing with crappy graphics is a little
tough to get used to. Especially when compared to UBI F1.

Not in the subject. Why is it important to you anyway?

1:03.32 at Laguna? That's absolutely amazing. This is the best time I've
seen so far. Anyone out there top this? BTW I assume you did it at
professional skill level?  It doesn't count if yer using driving aids ;)

That is because I was really looking forward to CPR. So I am a little
pissed at the result. I will try it more tonight & see if something clicks.

Since rain tires are so soft, there could well be more grip for a VERY
short time (like 1/4 lap). However, since they are grooved, they certainly
have less surface contact area. Hmmm...

1:02.69 (no aids). This one used rather too much gravel, but I've also
got a 1:02.79 which uses only a touch.

A little recalibration of lap speed may be in order? <g>

BTW - there's a bug in the HOF display where if you abort a lap near the
end in testing mode, the incomplete lap time gets recorded as a complete
one :( The above laps are genuine & supported by replays though ;-)

BTW2 (whilst I'm at it) - is there any way of getting my wheel/pedals
detected by CPR with the pedals on separate axes? To elaborate, I have a
GP500 and have it set up in GP2, ICR2 & N2 such that steering is on
joystick 1 X axis, accelerator is joystick 1 Y axis and brake is joystick
2 X axis. Can't get CPR to detect it like this :( After all a sim
shouldn't force brake & accelerator to be mutually exclusive <g>

Oh and for the record, considering the number of setup variables (and
hence processing that will be taking place) I don't consider the frame
rate to be awful. I get constant 29-30fps with o'clocked P166MMX & 3dfx
with clipping at min and no sky texture. Not that it wouldn't be nice to
be able to push the clipping out a little further and get the same fps of
course <g>

Cheers,
Richard

Rain tyres are in the demo (at least the one I've got!). The problem with
the demo is that the "tyre wear" option under the realism options is
greyed out. So rain tyres become a viable option. Tyre wear should always
be applied IMHO, no point in having it as an option as far as I can see.

Richard

Hi Eric,

<<

1:00.91 online, and 1:01.16 offline, professional, no aids, on rain tires,
BUT
1:01.23 offline on SOFT tires, professional, no aids, using a Thrustmaster
GP1 wheel.

:) beg your pardon for bragging ;)

Brag away A.C.H.I.M.....it's about time to spread the word of CIS's
fastest man.......but don't forget to tell them were the setup came
from.....;-)

My best times with same setup are: 1:02.47 on rains and 1:03.22 on softs
:)

BTW, got the full retail version  of CPR today......the street courses
are a blast. Even though I have my reservations about the physics model
myself, -  you can't deny the sheer joy of hottlapping in this game -
perfect or not. Hopefully Eric and the MS team will come through with
some usefull updates to make it more of a racing game - then they can go
back to work on the physics.
