Viper Racing Win2K Beta patch

Viper Racing Win2K Beta patch

Here is an unsupported BETA patch to allow Viper Racing to run under Win2K..
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

The only changes are:
-removal of the Windows NT lockout for versions 5.0 and greater (e.g.,
Win2K)
-a fix to the sound mixing subsystem, which may also help with Windows XP.

This patch has not been tested on more than a few machines, has no
installer, has not been approved or tested by Sierra On-Line, is AS IS, do
not operate heavy machinery while using this patch, etc, etc.  It worked on
a Dual P3-1000 with a GeForce 2 GTS running Win2K SP1; your mileage may
vary.
We've also had a report about incompatibility with Win2K SP2 but have not
been able to reproduce this in house until we upgrade to SP2 ourselves.  If
you're running a flavor of Win95/98, there's probably no reason to use this
patch unless you're having sound problems.

unfortunately this still doesn't solve my Win2K problems with Viper Racing.
It's great to see that you're still supporting Viper Racing however. Any new
sims in the works? (hint hint)

fyi I'm using Windows 2000 Pro with SP1.
Intel PII 400
256 MB ram
creative labs voodoo banshee 16meg (that's probably my problem there)
sb pci 64

thanks for the many hours of entertainment!

Yes, most problems I have supporting my sim on multiple platforms is
those lacking Voodoo drivers. My condolances. ;-)

actually I got it to work now by playing around with some of the audio
settings in options.cfg. I think the one that made is work for me was to
chage "use_ds3d" to yes Now I just have to brush up on my skills again and
get as much racing in before college starts up in less that a week :)

Hallelujah!!!!

You, sir, are a God!
This fixed my problems with crappy sound in Win2K-SP2.

On my Athlon 1200 rig I'm benchmarking 50 FPS with everything
absolutely maxed out in 1024, and that with an 'ol Geforce 1 DDR.
This weekend is earmarked for some serious Viper racing. Wheee!
