From what I understand, the Leadfoot prototype featured the DTR physics
engine, which is a step FORWARD from Ratbag's "arcade" engine used in
Powerslide. Also, I think that Leadfoot is going to seem "arcade-like"
compared to DTR in the same way that many people think that DTR is
"arcade-like" compared to GPL -- but that doesn't mean that what we're
going to see is going to be on a par with something like Daytona USA or
NFS. Leadfoot will feature things like crossover jumps, which is bound
to seem somewhat unrealistic compared to a "***" racing sim like
GPL, DTR, or WSC, but that doesn't mean that the physics are going to
be lacking, necessarily. I'd bet that Leadfoot will be an evolution of
DTR's physics engine, in fact -- an in-between building block to bridge
the gap between DTR and Ratbag's rumored Sprints game.
Plus, since Leadfoot will presumably include both 4X4 trucks and CORR-
type racing buggies (which are open-wheel), I would bet that Leadfoot
will also be the proving ground for an improved collision model that
will take into account open wheels rather than fenders. This is
something that isn't modeled in either Powerslide or DTR, and it's
something that Ratbag will have to include in any Sprint Car title, so
Leadfoot seems like an ideal proving ground.
Ratbag surprised all of us with DTR, I think, and I doubt that they're
going to simply rest on their laurels.
