After months of practise I finally got my first sub-29 lap on monza,
1:28:76. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the pitboard...
What a great feeling!

Congrats.  I've never managed better than 1:28:97.  Close.  I'll keep
trying.

Congratulations, I have also made a few 1:28 laps with the Lotus, but
I gave up going any faster with that car. So now I'm trying to break
the 1:30 barrier with the BRM. I'm at 1:30.15 and still trying.

1.31.28 in the Honda is my best.  Pretty bad.

From watching others it appears as though I'm overcharging the corners
and then having to brake too hard so I can get around.  Another thing I
do is change gears before I get to a corner (while braking), instead of
maybe braking first then downshifting in the corner.  Not sure what works
best...

If you want to improve your driving in F1, give F3's a try.  I'm serious.

You'll need to concentrate on taking better lines to keep the momentum.  I
works for me and also, the races are much more competitive.  Last night, I
diced with two other racers for half an hour, swapping positions ( 1st, 2nd
and 3rd ) at Silverstone and later at Watkins Glen.

You'll have a better understanding of braking points too when you come back
to F1's.

If you need instructions to set up an F3, let me know.

Nice to know you enjoyed yourself Robert :-)
Looks like we have another convert to the cause. It makes for great racing
when we can run together so closely for so such long periods of time. You
are quite right about having to drive these cars very accurately.
BTW I am still looking for a few drivers to sign up for our F3 league. Rages
are staged at 17:00  EST every other saturday. We have only run 3 rounds so
far so there is plenty of time to catch up. Any interested parties please

Stop wondering and download Juha Kallioinen's GPLDUMP v0.6.1 and find out
exactly where you're losing time.  You can directly compare speed, gear, rpm,
steering input, and line choice, along with the corresponding time diferential
to your opponent of choice.  You'll likely be able to isolate your trouble
spots (2nd Lesmo for me:-)) and get up to speed much quicker.  It's a great
help, and the best analysis tool for GPL driving there is.  Get it at:

Cheers,

Thanks!  I saw reference to GPLDUMP, but never looked into it.  I will
now ;)

The only thing better would be a ghost car, so you can drive against
yourself (I believe like in SCGT) and check out what different corner
approaches actually do in terms of speed and time.
GPL1.2?

IMO Brabham is best choice for a rookie.
