T2: Too bad. I'll stick to a stick.

by Daniel Dalt » Sun, 10 Mar 1996 04:00:00

Hi all,
I just got done repackaging my brand new T2.  I got it at Circuit
City (for $105 US after tax incidentally).  Anyway, I had read that
NASCAR although great with a joystick was electrifying with a steering
wheel.  I had also read that the T2 although not top of the line was
worlds better than a stick.  I drive NASCAR with a Thrustmaster
Flightstick Pro.  I am not a great driver, but I'm not the worst I've
seen either.  The point being that I do know my way around a couple of
the easier tracks.  My thinking was that if I can blow the doors off of
the computer at Talledega with a stick, then I should be able to
demoralize The King himself with a steering wheel.  NOPE.
After about two hours of frustration at Talledega and Bristol, I
decided that it wasn't me, it was the damn wheel.  It was imprecise in
the corners, physically jerky (plastic against plastic rubbing
somewhere inside.  Not enough to be noticed if making large movements,
but catastrophic while making minor adjustments while drafting through
the dogleg at 'dega)  I WANTED to love this wheel.  But I don't have tons
of money and I had to save up for this.  I damn well better love the
thing or it's going back.  Bummer...its going back.
The upshot?  I'd rather drive with a joystick than the T2.  Am I
alone in this?

May you never need a wedge adjustment,

Dan,

Have you contacted Thrustmaster Support? It sounds like your wheel
might be defective - mine is extremely smooth, far small or large
movements. My driving control in Nascar and IncycarII went up the fold
with the wheel (I also has a FlightStick Pro joystick I used for
driving before). Your description sounds very different from every
account of the T2 I've heard, so I would definetly try support.

I agree.  My T2 wheel has been problem free, and has improved my driving (and
my *** enjoyment)on all the games I've used it for.  However, it *does* sound
like Thrustmangler is suffering from some quality control problems...there have
been a few posts here about loose wheels, etc., but it also sounds like
they are more than obliging when it comes to customer support.  Contact
them...they'll more than likely replace your wheel for free...and pretty quickly,
too.  Check out their home page at: http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Just so you know, they (Thrustmaster) did put a post up here a week or
so ago that said they had some kind os system meltdown, and lost some
e-mail.

My roomate and I both drove with a T2, (I also have a TM rig), and we have no
complaints with it at all. You must have gotten a bad T2.  Most of the people I
know with a T2 think it's a good wheel at a cheap price.

I had a problem when I first started using the T2. I found if I turned my
wheel lock down I did much better.

my 2 cents,

Yes, I think you are alone on this one. <G>  Did you make sure to
switch the linear/non-linear settings in NASCAR for the T2?
