Indiana Sim-Racers Association
------------------------------

The Indiana Sim-Racers Association is looking for people that are
interested in running an Online/LAN League.  This unique league will
allow the drivers to race on TEN/NROS but within a LAN enviroment.

o - Race online but right next to your fellow competitor
o - Organized Rules and Times
o - Meet fellow racers
o - Great Opportunity for some "Trash Talking"
o - Trade Setups and Exchange Information
o - Digital Connection to TEN/NROS for low warp racing
o - Race officials for each race
o - GREAT Location with easy parking
o - Refreshments available
o - Less than 1 mile away from 465
o - Close to multiple eating facilities and local malls

We are looking for arround 8-10 people within this Indianapolis/Indiana
area that would be interested in this type of racing.  Note:  It WILL
cost arround $5-10 per league race to rent the networked computers for
the 1-3 hours we will be using them.  If you are interested in getting
together and racing with us, just send email to:

I'd do some N2 racing, but how about doing GPL too???

This is a great idea.   Too bad making a weekly 4-hour round-trip
drive to Indy isn't an option for me personally.  I always see and
hear about all-day all-night LAN parties for some of those Quake-type
of games, but really no interest in race sim LAN parties.   Now if
only there was some type of server software that would allow you to
run the NROS client over the local LAN and not have to connect to TEN
at all.   Seems like a waste of the available LAN bandwidth to have to
connect to the Internet to race the guys sitting next to you.   It
would be fantastic to race head-to-head with 10 league members on a
warp-free LAN.   Some cities also have actual arcade-type places that
rent time on a LAN environment that allows for head-to-head PC ***.
Too bad some enterprising individual hasn't started something like
this for the sim-racing community.  I'd gladly pay a fee for a few
hours of LAN racing per week.

What do people think is the feasibility of places where you can do this
sort of thing? I see successful internet cafes springing up all over the
place and some of them offer this as a smaller-scale option but how well
do you guys reckon a place dedicated to LAN *** would do?
People could book times, like 1 hour for a 10 PC quake deathmatch or 2
hours to run a GP length race on GPL or do a dogfight on some flight sim
or another. There could be tournament days or theme days etc etc.

There was a thread about this a while ago but I can't remember much
about it so I thought I'd raise the subject again :-)

Call me an idealistic ***ager but I think if someone opened a place
like this it wouldn't be long before it would be successful enough to
open a whole chain of 'em!

Dave what I am THINKING about doing is having these type of "Get
togethers" more on a monthly basis.  And wouldnt be mandatory because we
would in fact be using the TEN/NROS system.  So if you are a league
member that couldn't get to the location you could still run from home.
But this type of get together would be a lot of fun.  Give you/us an
opportunity to trade information, make friends etc...

The software does exist to not have to go over the internet.  BUT that
is owned by TEN.  I used that software myself when I went to Daytona and
raced.  The system is awsome, but I must say I was amazed by the
performance I was able to achieve on this digital type connection.  The
LAN environment that allows for head-to-head PC *** is where we will
be having our races.  However, this will be unique because we will be
using TEN/NROS.  I am doing this because I would "LOVE" to get some
inter-city tournaments or leagues going.

Have 10 LAN networked guys racing at Indy vs. 10 LAN networked guys
racing say in C***te.  Would be a lot of inexpensive fun.

Did you get a local company (or your employer) to donate/rent their
PC's and LAN for a few hours use or are you setting this up yourself?
And what type of digital connection are you using to connect to the
Internet, ISDN, cable, T1?  You're right, it is a great way to create
some inexpensive fun.  I'd be up to the task of organizing a local
Columbus chapter of the LANROS if there were enough folks in the area
that were interested.  Such a gathering of racers would also lend
itself to run some other networkable sims as well like GPL, etc.

There are such small chains in the bigger cities in the US.  I can't
recall the companies' names, but they were primarily running some of
the deathmatch-type games and selling access by the hour.  I don't
recall reading that any of them were running racing sims.  There
probably wouldn't be much overhead to this type of business outside of
the initial equipment costs and renting a storefront/office.  Unless
someone could really invest in the up-front costs, you probably
wouldn't get rich doing it, but you could probably break even by
running it on weekends and have tons of fun playing yourself.

I just used a local ***-Cafe that offers Network Games like Quake etc....
They have a ISDN line that allows for different IP's for each "station".  The
connection was extremely good.  I was thinking of have some "Inter-City"
challenges LOL.  Be awsome to have a Columbus vs. Indy etc....

I would assume that Columbus is Ohio?  Because we have a Columbus in Indiana
as well.

P.S.  --- You get on TEN/NROS?

FYI, the commercial LAN-arcade is at www.slamsite.com.  They have
locations in LA, New York, and Charleston(?).
