Please note that the paragraph that mentioned that the empty space
would be filled in was added to my preview by the editor. I don't
know where he heard this ... this is the first I've heard of it, I
just hadn't gotten around to asking him what the deal was. Either he
has more recent information than I do on that particular point, or
that needs to get corrected. As far as showing head movements, hm...I
didn't notice that the view changed much, but the car does move around
you a little bit I think....I would have to go back and look more
closely. If there is actual movement of the POV camera, I didn't
notice it.
Perhaps its as much a criticism of the cars as it is the game, if it
can be called a criticism. If this is what the cars sounded like,
okay. If not, too bad. My comment was more on the fidelity and
'color' of the engine noises. Compared the harmonics in CPR, GPL
feels flat, but then again these aren't turbocharged engines. I don't
want to be unfair to Papyrus (particularly given that I'm not an
expert on car engine sounds of that era), so I simply pointed out that
I wasn't blown away by the sounds, not that they were 'bad' or
'wrong'. I did like the wind noise though :)
Hard to do. And don't laugh, but so far the best F1 sim sounds I've
heard come from, of all places, a Nintendo 64 Grand Prix game. Go to
www.ign64.com and download the movies and listen to the sounds. It
sorta sounds like they nailed it, but it is a bit hard to hear over
the stupid background music.
Some would call you a blasphemer for that last bit :). I'm glad you
enjoyed the preview.
