GPL has a real grainey look .never had it with windows 98 or 95.Have windows
xp now. 1.8 gig 256.up graded vidio card
Did you forget to update the software when you reloaded? Sounds like you have
graphics set to 'software'. Try D3D - it will look better.

On a serious note, since you don't mention the rasterizer you're
using, I guess you're in software mode. Make sure you obtain the D3D
rasterizer. (Since Papy.com has been killed I can't help you with a
download address, but I'm sure some kind soul can help you....)
