F1 game from EA

I recently bought FIFA2000 (good game) and there was some
information inside about other EA Sports games.

One of the games was not named yet, but caught my interest.
Its a F1 simulation game from the 1999 season.

I don't see informtation about the game on their web page, there
is no information on the net, does anybody know about this game?

So far we only have a release date and a title. The title is Formula One
Championship (very original one!!) and the release date is March 1st, 2000.

UK computer press covered this a month or so ago - seems EA have now bought the
rights to the F1 series and are planning a series of games. Doubtless, with the
EA name behind them they will sell big time but I pray that they are good.
Also, will this affect 'Sir' Geoffs' forthcoming GP3 with its' licensing deal?

No, Microprose has a license for 1997 or 1998, this is the one for GP3.
Hopefully there will be an editor inside, to make the game up to date.

Hi Kenneth!

Thanks for your answer. Strange behavior from EA, right?
The license is very popular and expensive and they don't hype
the game behind.

I have high expectations, EA Sports delivered recently strong with
FIFA2000 - they will not come up with something like GP legends, but
it should be a playable fun game (mix between arcade racing and
simulation like F1 Racing Sim).

AFAIK EA have non-exclusive rights. That way Bernie can sell the rights
as many times as he likes. With his track record, GP3 should be better,
but you never know with EA - it just depends how good the team is that
does it.

The way I see it, the ONLY game EA did well was FIFA, they've
certainly mucked up the NHL series quite well.

I see this as a bad thing for racing sims- look at that Andretti
garbage, for instance.

I think this is the way EA normally works. The game is still some time off
as well, so no need to hype it. Ussually EA releases info a couple of weeks
before the game goes gold or ships...So we'll have to guess for a long time.

Talking about GP3, I was in the understanding that they have licenses from
1998 to 2002?

I hope for a good racing sim. GP Legends is very good, but midrace save
is not there, so I am not skillful enough to race against the computer.

You are right. Hasbro has the license and made a deal with Geoff.
GP2 is still my alltime favorite game. GP3 has to be good.

Andreti was shit.  But look at all the good that has come from them.  They
are the leaders of sports.  With only PC versions in mind only 1 of 3 racing
attempts by EAsports (not Electronic Arts who did SCGT and Need for Speed)
the only impressive one was SBK.  And that game rocked.  I personaly don't
know how good this game will be but personaly I don't think it'll be the
best out there.  But you never know from some looks of GP3, I'm getting less
impressed every time I see a new screenshot (many reasons why.)
