Is this game worth purchasing, or is it to old.

What has age got to do with it?

Some things stand the test of time and others don't.

Can't comment on Viper myself because I've never tried it but it it seems to
draw a reasonable number of posts in here. I can only assume that there is
justification for the traffic volume.

Yes!
Viper has good FF, good graphics, believable physics, plus, you'll probably
find it in the bargain bin for under $15.
The only downside is that there aren't many tracks, and there are nothin'
but Vipers in the game.
All IMO, of course.

I picked it up somewhere on-line for about $10 a while back. It's not my
favorite sim, but for  the prioce it is worth it. Pretty decent physics
model.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!  Provided you like games that are so realistic, they seem impossible.
One thing to remember about GT style racing, is that all the cars have
tonnes of HP and no grip.  My GT-class Viper has 750BHP and weighs around
1350KG.  A pretty good indication of how tough it is at the top.

Chris

PS: excuse the enthusiasm.

PS wrt GPL probs, try starting again from scratch. Sounds like you've
***ed something up along the patch/crack path.

Too old?  Viper Racing is one of the top 3 driving/racing sims, with
FULL 3D support via D3D (which means no dedicated video card
required).  Only GPL and NFSPU offer similar or better sim driving
thrills.  Buy it.

I would say more than believable....I thought it was a pretty good game for a
while,then
got GPL and drove that for couple of months ,and then went back to Viper just
for fun.
I discovered that I had not previously disabled all the driving aids, and after
doing that
it became MUCH harder....the guys that developed it (Monster Games, inc) had
also worked at
Papyrus previously,thus the quality.

Well, ....I and Darrel Pietersen are looking into the possibility of changing
that situation,
.....by decoding the track data formats with hex editors.....

I found out from an interview on the net that the tracks were constructed using
Multigen II Pro with Road Tools and Multigen Creator...........only
disadvantage is
that those tools cost a couple of hundred of thousands of dollars.....

THAT might be much harder to remedy, unfortuantely

It's is one of the 5 best racing games I have ever played. It has a physics
model that rivals GPL , and yet it is more fun to play IMHO. Graphics are
excellent even by current standards. You can tailor the physics model to be
fairly easy all the way up to GPL demanding. The damage model is one of the
best in any game. There are built in cheat codes that let you race a generic
Italian sportscar, and two other generic cars. Also, there is an airplane
available to fly, whichdemonstrates the impressively versatile physics model,
which can even be adapted to an airplane flight sim of all things. It is worth
$50 let alone bargain bin $15.

How do you activate the cheats or what are the cheats?

I love Viper Racing.  It's the game that got me into racing
games.  I now spend WAY too much time playing NASCAR Racing 3
and go back to Viper for a change of pace.  If nothing else it
will help you learn about setups.
