Many thanks guys,
Until I selected the "ALL" option under "Trackside Objects" the tarmack
didn't actually show up at all..... Now I can at least
see where I am going.

Anybody give me a clue as to what is a reasonable time there.

I had the same problem. Detail level made no difference. I had to turn the
detail bias slider all the way to the right.
