VROC-f2 eGroups moderator?

by evente.. » Wed, 17 May 2000 04:00:00

Anyone know who the moderator for the VROC-F2 eGroup is?  I'm still
waiting for my sign-up to be approved since Sunday.  I'm dying to get
the setup resources, and join some scheduled races!

TIA!

I believe that Alison Hine is the moderator.  There could've been some
sort of glitch in your registration process.  I can't recall there
being any delay at all.  You may wish to try reregistering.

You can duplicate most of the resources there simply by going to
www.vroc.net and hitting the various links.  Alison's Eagle Woman GPL
page has a link right on the first page.

If you already have WinVroc installed you're most of the way there.
Start up Chat and click on the "+" button to add a new chat room.  Add
the VROCF2 chatroom and you'll have access to the place everyone
gathers who have a hankering for F2 racing.

There's a race a Snetterton today at 6:00PM.  The group is quite
informal and if you just show up in the VROCF2 chatroom I'm certain
you'll be welcome to participate.  All you have to do is be committed
to friendly, mannerly, good-natured racing.  If not, it won't matter
if you're registered in the VROC-F2 egroup or not... <g>

The format is that a couple of passworded servers are fired up for the
selected track and everybody joins in to whatever server suits them
(lower ping, fewer drivers, their friends are on it, whatever...) for
a 30 minute session to sort out who will race together on the "fast"
server and who will race on the "not so fast" server. <g> (referred to
as Gold and Silver, respectively).  All you do is note your fastest
lap and, when practice ends, quit GPL and return to the chatroom.  The
server hosts will calculate the "split" for their respective servers.
If you were faster than the split time on that server, you run one the
Gold else you run on Silver (I usually end up looking for the "Coal"
server <g>).  After that, the servers are refired for the actual race
and you get another practice/qualify session to determine your
starting place on the grid.

If you qualify for the Gold server, but can't connect, get disco'd,
etc.  You can always come to the Silver server if there's room and run
with a handicap like full fuel load or a slower car.  In fact, the
Gold server is started about five minutes before the Silver just to
accomodate such on-line problems.  The important thing is racing and
having a good time at it.

While some members maintain a driver ranking spreadsheet based on
performance at previous races, it isn't a league and there are no
point standings, etc.  It really is for new drivers to have an
opportunity to race in a less chaotic, dog-eat-dog environment.  It
really is a terrific bunch of folks.
