How to defend in Arcade view in GPL?

I have a TNT 2 card, because i use my computer to other games than GPL.
Thats why i have to use the arcade view to get 36fps all the time, and after
a few laps i like it better than in-car view. I feel i can control my drift
better. And i have the data on how warm my tires are, making it easier to
know when to push. Anyway, is there a way of defend your position without
your mirrors?
Why didn't Papyrus made a "backward view" like any new sims has it?

I just installed the game yesterday again, since i had nothing to do. I had
not driven it much before, because i thought it was way to difficoult. But
today i got my first lap under 1:32 on Monza in the Lotus. The setups
actually do much more than you think. Enyway, is a 1:31:7 a good lap after 2
days?

There's no solution to your problem, apart from getting your PC hardware
good enough to be able to run at 36 fps with the in-car view.  Make sure you
try varying the detail slidey bar as this makes a HUGE difference to the
frame rate.  It's more realistic if you play from the in-car view, and also
fairer to everyone else.
Maybe you could get a V5.

Personally, I don't like arcade view. Yes, it is easier for some people
(not me), but it's a little unfair on your competitors. THe mirror
thing could be thought of as your punishment... :-)

'Cause it ain't realistic!

IIRC, I'd done about 1:32 after two days, so your time sound pretty
good. Keep at it.

Is shift-r realistic?

Where do you get that tire data? The two temperatures displayed are
the oil and water temperature and/or pressure :-) Heh actually I can't
remember what data is shown in the arcade view right now, but I'm sure
the tire temperatures weren't there.

Correct, i was wrong. I thought the OT was Outer Tire Temperature, but it is
as you point out Oil Temperature. The other things is Oil Pressure and Fuel
Pressure.

You can't use Shift-R in the higher modes in any case.

How to defend in Arcade view in GPL?

I use arcade view on-line only when a particular track has a serious
degredation of my frame rate.  (like Kyalami, Osterreichring, etc.) I
would prefer the in-car, but when it's the difference between 16 FPS
and 24 FPS, I have to switch.

I know I need desparately to upgrade my hardware and do plan to do so,
but the one thing that has a worse effect on my driving isn't FPS, but
in fact, the amount of detail I've got turned on (or the lack of it).
I can turn everything off on the options page and get a tolerable
framerate at problem tracks while in-car, but I can't drive the ***y
car because I've lost all useful visual references with the Flintstone
graphics.  Translating from driving a real race car to the sim where
there is such a dearth of tactile input as to what the car is doing
makes me even more reliant on the visual input I am receiving.  Taking
away most of the visual cues and the tactile feedback just makes it a
dumb, frustrating exercise.

As to on-line in arcade mode, I don't dice very hard because I'm not
good enough yet, frankly, so I just listen for cars behind me and keep
a tight line exitting corners, ease off on the acceleration, and thumb
the wheel button that raises the driver's right hand whenever I hear
someone behind me. <g>

No, but then again, we ought to be able to drop into the pits to fix things
like punctures, and we can't.

In a sence that virtual reality has completely different features that
real-life will never give to us, I say that Shift-R is realistic.  We need
to stop thinking "if it doesn't happen in real-life it's not realistic".
Some options that we are able to get while racing virtual reality
simulations are incredibly benefitial and be sure that real-life racecar
drivers would love to see such things for them.
