ICR2 - Different Versions?

by DPHI » Wed, 07 Jan 1998 04:00:00

How many different versions of ICR2 are there out there? My friend and I both
have the sim, mine purchased, CD only, at a computer fair, and his, purchased
in the box at Comp USA. We are trying to play over the net, and realized we
have different selections in our respective menus, similar but different. Could
this be why we seem to be having trouble hooking up over the net, and the
reason I don't seem to be able to integrate any new carsets or sounds into
mine? Any help would be appreciated.

a.) DOS version, with various version numbers due to patches
b.) Win95 version
c.) Rendition 3D version (5 tracks only) - was only avail with a
Rendition card until recently when ICR2 was re-released as CART Racing
(not the Microsoft game) - this re-release contains all 3 versions of
ICR2 I think.

This is a tricky question.  There are technically 3 versions of ICR2
(coming in different flavors: DOS, Windows, Mac, Rendition).  If I
remember correctly the "patched" versions would show the version number
when the "J" key is pressed at the main intro screen.

However, I am unaware of any version of IndyCar Racing 2 which supports
playing over the net (only modem or null-modem support).  Check out the
ICR2 FAQ at http://www.teleport.com/~mcarver/icr2faq.htm for more
information.

ICR2 - Different Versions?

Hi Don,

Sounds as though one of you has the original ICR1, and the other
has ICR2.  Check the exact name on the respective boxes - even
the color could be a clue - and also the face of the CD.  Does one
not have all the tracks either?  How about the graphics?  With
ICR2, if you use the -H switch <indycar.exe -h> you'll get hi-res
SVGA graphics - an option not available in ICR1.

Other than this, there is no difference in the menus between the
versions of ICR2 (Win95 and CART name change exempt), so the
menus would have been the same.

Cheers!
