Shifter mod. Too ostentatious?

I am sooooo tempted by a Momo polished aluminium gearknob for the RS
Shifter that I have.  I just think it would look tasty next to the
Momo wheel...

But it's 50 quid...

Anyone out there fitted aftermarked gearknobs?  Not something I've
done before.

I do note that the "guide" on the RS shaft is 2 inches long - longer
than the replacement knob would need.  I guess I just live with the
lower part being visible?  Would kind of spoil the flash effect.

Maybe a leather Momo in the same style as the standard fit knob...

I bought a MOMO knob for my shifter from Halfords for 35. There was a
clearance problem when it was fitted which meant that the shifter wouldn't
stay in 5th gear. I solved it by packing 3 washers inside the knob to raise
it up. It now looks the business, definitely money well spent.

Yep, I've done it! It's the finishing touch. The Momo one I have came
with three little *** bushes of different sizes, with the middle one
being a perfect push on fit for the Shifter.

Cheers

PS. When I was in Halfords with one of my mates, sweating over the price
of the knobs, my mate just said, "Pah, 50 piffling quid, pay the man
and damn his impertinence!" <G> So I did.

PPS. LOL, That sounds gay!!

Any pix?

What I've been looking at it probably not quite as big as a pool ball
so I'm worried that it'll look a bit freakish at the top of a spindly
shaft, plus the fact that the "notch" (for want of a better word) in
the shaft will be visibly.

While we're talking mods, is it possibly for GPL Shifter owners to get
hold of the push/pull sequential shift plate that comes with the
normal RS version?

Thanks all for the input,

Mark

How about this:

SInce I live in the UK, and I'm used to driving right-hand drive, I
hacked up an old T2 wheel, moving the gear shift from the right-hand side
to the left-hand side, and swapped over the little plastic ping-pong ball
for a slightly meatier gearknob (from a MkII Cortina, no less!)

The thing is a little top heavy, and needs some work to stop it bouncing
back and changing down after I just changed up, but overall it works
quite well and grabbing a gear is a lot more satisfying than the little
plastic bit of standard equipment.

Dropped a bit off my GPL times, too...

Regards,

Take a look at my RS Shifter complete with chrome Momo knob at
http://www.racesimcentral.com/articles/reviews/rsshift/rsshift4.shtml . It
is a Competizione knob. You can see a better photo on the Momo website at

Mark

I've uploaded a picture to alt.binaries.simulators.autos called 'momo
knob.jpg'

I'm not sure. I actually received that plate with my USB Shifter.

Cheers
