Yes, you need to install the Sidewinder software that came with the wheel.
It will complain about installing on XP, but it works fine.

I did (although I have a non-FF USB wheel), ... got the latest version
from MS...

..and it crashed Win98 instantly at startup (BSOD).   Remove, and all is
right again. Man, these guys really ARE incompetent.

..Think I'll keep on doing any real work on the Mac   ;)

You have to use SideWinder 4.0 software for XP.

SideWinder 4.0 is Windows XP "Certified", even though it states that it is
only for windows 98 when you install it.

Yes, my friends.... When you own the Lab and write the rules, you can do
just about ANY thing you want to :)

Just one addition: the Sidewinder 4.0 software for XP is ONLY for USB
controllers.

If you've got a game port device you're stuck with the default driver that
comes with XP. This will let you use the wheel, but you have no
programmability or setup options like you do with the Sidewinder software.
