time to catch up and read all these posts about the Daytona race.
I started to compose a long meandering thought process, but cannot seem
to articulate my thoughts into words well enough.
So, to sum it all up, I would just like to say that I love racing, and
even though I don't watch NASCAR and a lot of other forms of racing, I
appreciate what exactly these people are doing each week. Sundays' race
was one of the few NASCAR races I have watched from beginning to end.
Once I heard from the broadcast crew that Waltrip was 0 for 462, there
was my 'underdog' to root for, and that made it exciting. I was so
friggin' happy for the guy when he won. Seeing him in victory lane was a
joy, and I was glad to have been privileged to witness it.
To go from that level of happiness to be slammed down to earth by the
news of Dale Snrs death sucks. Yet as a race fan, I know I am going to
feel this time and time again throughout my life. Heck, I don't even know
much about DE. What is this going to feel like when I read about one of
the F1 drivers that I have read so much about in F1Racing magazine? Ugh.
I hope there is not a backlash and they start throwing up chicanes at all
the NASCAR ovals. Like when Senna died. (That was a lame attempt at
levity. I deal with sadness with humour. Or try to.)
