At last! It looks like we are going to have a semi-realistic
motorcycle sim in Castrol Superbikes. I downloaded the demo from
ftp://ftp.op3dfx.com/pub/game_demos/castrol/castrol.zip

After being completely disappointed with Redline Racer, I had almost
given up hope! To the others out there looking for a halfway decent
motorcycle sim, I recommend that you try the demo.

Note: I'm not saying the demo is without problems, but I'll wait for
the final version before passing judgment.

One thing: I don't know if the game will support force feedback
joysticks or not, but this game cries out for a decent implementation
of it. Countersteering, wheelies, slides etc could, I would imagine,
be modelled to a pretty good degree using force feedback. It would
give the rider much more feedback than he/she currently gets with the
demo.

Anyway, check it out and let the world know what you think.

Mike

P.S. Demo supports Voodoo.

How about TANKSLAPPERS!

That would have to be the first *realistic* use of force feedback.

Note for non-riders: A tank slapper can occur  when you get ***
the gas out of a turn, and the front end gets light under full
acceleration, and a hideous front wheel oscillation occurs, where the
handlebars bang against the fuel tank from side to side - hence the
term Tankslapper. It tends to scare the shit outta you.

If they could model that in a motorcycle sim, I would very VERY
impressed.

I don't know about you, but I "never" want to go through another one of those,
simulated or not! I still get nightmares.....LOL! Don

Seems a little arcadish to me, but that may just be because all of the helps
are turned on and cannot be disabled (at least that I could find).

All of the help keys can be found in either the Instructions.txt,
Instructions-Word95.doc or Instructions-Word97.doc files found in the directory
in which you installed the demo.  Also, could anyone with a VooDoo II board get
it to run without getting just a black screen with text and the RPM gauge.

And yesm, you can and MUST turn off the steering and braking help to
see the driving model. Look in the word files for the help though, not
the txt file as it has some errors.

Apparently it now runs on Voodoo2 with the new v2 drivers just
released yesterday.

Exactly! But, they might have to be careful with how powerful the
tankslapper becomes...don't want any broken wrists! That would be way
too realistic. ->:-0

Yeah, I should have looked before opening my big mouth! You can also change
the number of laps and lots of other things in the *.cfg files. There is a
time limit that kicks in, but you can get in a good 10 laps or more if you
change the *.cfg files.

I have Voodoo I (Monster 3DfX) and am getting the black screen thing -
what gives?

Does anyone know what to do to correct this for an original Voodoo I
card?

Thanks,

Scott

Mine works fine and I can add to something that someone else said, I amusing the
3dfx interactive drivers and they said they were and it was working also.  That
might be it.
