Little Computer Drivers seem nervous at Brands Hatch

I wasn't at the Little Computer People's Drivers meeting prior to the race
at Brands so I don't know what was discussed. But they seem a little nervous
at the corners. Not going in with their usual abandon. My theory is that
whilst living at Papyrus they put in many laps during the programming of the
sim but this is all a bit new to them. I find I can wiz past them on the
corners far easier than on the other tracks. I've been looking for a Little
Computer People's spokeperson to comment but so far they have been difficult
to get hold of or their Little Computer People's Agents have been reluctant
to comment. If they follow this newsgroup would anyone of them care to
comment? Sorry for the overuse of the word comment. On a different note. I
can remember standing eagerly at the fence at the bottom of South Bank
whilst the good ol Ford Prefect sat proudly up on the top with the boot open
displaying a lavish picnic (when it wasn't pissing Cats and dogs that is) as
Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Dan Gurnie etc roared past. Not
quite the same these days is it with all the prima donnas out there. Mind
you I thought Eddie's little display of boyish humour with Mika at the
conference was pretty funny. As per another thread here I remember the '67
Race of Champions but I don't think it counted for the season from memory.
Gotta install these new Textures for Brands the piccies look great.

Stuart, doesn't that simply go :eats, roots, and leaves"   ?  :)
Have I always only heard the abbreviated (Sydney?) version or is this
the latest evolution?

In any case, from my experience our American friends are not usually
to familiar with the British type use of the word "root" anyway, so not
to worry :)

British? I've only ever heard Kiwis and Aussies say that.

It should be referring to the wombat....not the koala.

And that's where I'm from. So it's my expression thank you :0) But I think
it can apply to wombats and Koalas  as they both eat shoots. I think he
meant British in the colonial convict sense. Let's get back to GPL. Is there
anyway to include Brands in a Season race? It doesn't appear in the lap
records section. Who cares anyeway it's awesome. And much better IMHO with
the new textures

I've always had the shoots part in. Sorta adds to it don't you think?
And whay should the americans have all the "In" talk anyway.

Yeah, and the "shoot" part could come both before (targeting) and
after (relieving) the rooting :)

Little Computer Drivers seem nervous at Brands Hatch

I finally felt comfortable enough to attempt an offline race at Brands Hatch
yesterday and noticed some bizarre AI behavior.  This was just a novice race
(8 or 9 laps, I believe).  Chris Amon was running in third after about three
laps when he stopped shifting above 2nd gear.  He just cruised around the
track in 1st and 2nd, running laps in the 2:00 range.  A mechanical problem
perhaps, but what was even odder was that none of the AI tried to pass him!
Soon there was a traffic jam right behind Amon.  Amon just continued in this
fashion and held on to 3rd place for the remaining 5 or 6 laps.

I saw a couple of other instances of the AI being reluctant to pass.  For
some reason, Clark qualified around 12th place.  He was stuck behind Chris
Irwin for the entire race and never made a move on him.  Also when the
leader, Graham Hill, caught up with the backmarkers, he never got by them.
The backmarkers were really slow too (they qualified 20 seconds behind
Hill!).

Anybody else notice this?

Note: I am running all 19 AI with no modifications to their strength / hype
except that I added the Jackie Stewart / Mike Spence patch.

Yes - I frigged the driver.ini file so I could run against drivers 10 to
14, and Jochen Rindt (number 10) was way faster than the others.

I got past the slower drivers easily enough, but was way behind Rindt
and thought I had no chance of passing him, but then on the last lap -
there he was, pootling along behind a back-marker!

I just overtook them both to take the win!

I don't know whether there's some extra info that needs to be put into
the track definition to "help" the AI to know where to pass a slower car
- certainly at Mosport the faster AI cars have no problem overtaking the
backmarkers.
