Help with my T2

by Chris Cavi » Sun, 18 May 1997 04:00:00

My T2 has started jumping all over the track in GP2
when I go down the straights.  The wheel turns just
fine and works OK when actually in the turn, it just
can't hold a straight line down the straights.  I
know about the non-linear zone setting in the control
menu and have played with it, but I'm beginning to
think that the potentiometers are worn out.  Has this
happened to anyone else?  Should the steering
potentiometers wear out in less than a years playing
time?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Dirt-

Your pot is dirty. You should get some contact cleaner spray and spray a
*little* bit into the pot. Move the wheel around a couple of times and burn
some ***: you're all done!

Actually, you almost got it right, the pots needs to be cleaned
with a good lubricants/cleaner

try Radio Shack part #64-4315

Insert the nozzle inside the pots port, and while spraying, turn
your wheel right/left often, that's going to cure your problem.
Don't forget to do the same to the pedals potentiometer.

Yes, it can be done, i've built one (am i alone?), i use it for GP2 (i
think it's the only sims now that can use it) check this out how to do
it on my website

Everything is explained loud and clear at (direct link)

http://infoweb.magi.com/~ericcote/t2&clutch.html

Also if you want to add gear change button mounted on steering
wheel (keep your hand on wheel, and trigger gears with fingers)

try this:

BTW, i've spoke to technical department at Thrustmaster, i've
explained what i've done (modification), and i've asked them
to consider this as future plan for there GT wheel as either
EASY ADD-ON or already hooked-up, and they reply that
they would consider this in a serious way.

Before you break down and break down your wheel to replace the "pot",
try to get some "Tuner/Switch Cleaner & Lubricant".  You should be able
to find this at a electronics parts place or your nearest Radio Shack
(tm).  Pop the hood on your steering wheel housing.  Locate openings in
housing of the pot and spray the cleaner inside the pot.  I usually
stick the nozzle adaptor in the area where the solder lugs are.  Now
move the wheel back and forth for a good 8-10 times to work the cleaner
the contacts.  You might want to give it a second spraying before you
close it up and head back out to the track.  Not only should this
rejuvinate your steering wheel, but the lubricant should help it last
longer.
