"Brilliant" move by Burton/Crew ?  I call it chickenshit<G>  Looks like
Stoddard watched the F1 race last week; why race for position, when you can
do that ?

New rule next year I bet.  Great, now The Winston is going to be boring
too.

most anyone behind the s/f line could have thought of it too...I'll have to
tip my hat to them, cause i also believe that its always best to work smart,
rather than hard when the opportunity presents itself :)

I can't agree with you John. They found a rule flaw and used it to their
advantage, that's what competitive people do. The call WAS brilliant, was it
fair? Probably not, but that is for NASCAR to fix.

Oh, don't get me wrong; there wasn't a rule against it, so more power to
them for thinking of it.

Just stinks IMO; it's not racing, anymore than the GP was.

Having a new rule against it next year(I imagine) says it all :)

In the first 40 lap segment, each car is required to make a green pitstop.
Burton was pitting just behind the s/f line.  So, on the last lap, while
everyone else had pitted earlier, he pits..........goes fifty yards or so to
cross the s/f line/run the lap, and maintains his position, race over.

I agree, it was almost a sure bet, so it kinda spoiled it. But i suppose
thats also a side-effect of what happens when you interupt racing with
mandatory this and that. Youre also right in the new rule thing. Im sure we
will see the mandatory "pit window" next year. Heeheeee !

Good point, that's true(mandatory stuff).  Get rid of the pitstops<G>

And he ended up finishing 20th overall so what difference did it really
make?

If, but, dog, rabbit :)  If his clutch hadn't gone out, where would he
have finished ?  Like he said, he probably would have won.  Big difference
then.

Would have won the segment maybe but it wasn't for the big money.
It's The Winston, not a points race and thus the reason for the weird and
wonderful rules. Sure it wasn't really fair but this race is for the fans
and thus they try and mix stuff up a bit.
I'm no Jeff Burton fan by far but it was a fair move under the rules, just
glad he didn't win :)

No, he didn't finish 2nd overall.  He finished 2nd in the first segment and
20th in the final standings.
