Win95 - how to turn off AutoPlay on CDs??

by John D. Courtn » Mon, 30 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Hi,
I've recently tried Multiplayer racing with NASCAR 2, of course,
this requires the CD to work properly.  Sometimes when I run NASCAR 2
with the CD-ROM in the drive, the game starts up and the NASCAR 2
installation program appears instead of NASCAR 2.  This causes NASCAR
2 to crash big time, not even allowing it to load.  In most cases to
get NASCAR 2 to load again I have to reboot my computer.  This problem
has caused me to miss many multiplayer games and has caused me much
agrivation!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
John

Go to Micosoft's website (www.microsoft.com) and find the area known as
"PowerToys" (actually, just go to
www.microsoft.com/windows/software/powertoy.htm and save yourself the
search...)

Download either the whole PowerToy set or just download the one called
"Tweak UI"... Once you install it, you can easily turn the autoplay on or
off (look under the "Paranoia" tab)... you can also turn the autoplay for
audio CD's on or off and do a whole lot of other things that makes Windows

"splash screen" at startup...).

Hope this helps,
- Mike.

I think you can also stop the autorun by holding down the shift when you
insert the cd in the drive.  Try it.  It may be easier than the previous
post AND you can still have the autorun for other things!

Go to: START|SETTINGS|CONTROL PANEL|SYSTEM

Then under the device manger tab, dbl click the cdrom and then dbl
click the cdrom drive that appears under it.

That brings up properties for your CDROM.
Choose the settings tab and clear the check in the box labeled
AutoInsert Notification.
That's it
