Hi,

I've made up my mind with the new hardware, and now it's time to pay
some attention to software.

With my current hardware I've raced with CMR2, imo the 3 and 4 just
weren't as good. Partial reason might that the old hardware just
couldn't get the most out of them... Which other GOOD sim-like
rallying games are on the market, preferably with good car
physics/dynamics and group B cars. I've heard good things about Rally
Trophy dynamicswise that is, but my old hardware just can't handle it.
How is it with CMR5, the demo wasn't too promising...

I also have GPL, but I guess I've missed most of the fun. The damn
computer is too slow!

I've raced modern era F1 with Microproses GP1, 2, 3 and 4. The latest
is a little too heavy for my hardware at the moment.

I was hoping to get advice which "sims" would be most life-like and
satifying both in rally and modern F1. The GPL should do it with
wintage F1.

All suggestion for other good racing software is also more than
wellcome.

Thanks,
Matti

Well, rally-wise I'd still suggest rally trophy pre-patch. I could
never get CMR to run with my TSW2 wheel in a decent way.

Racing-sim wise I'd suggest N2003 for an all type blast from trucks to
grandam and IRL-type cars, GPL is still up there with the recently
released 65mod, and of course F1C (the rh2004 season adds a lot to the
physics and driveability), and of course last but not least LFS which
promises to be the sim to-be from what's coming up in S2.

And GT Racing just around the corner in September (great demo
available on the net), netkar is good and so is Racer by Ruud van Gaal
if you're willing to experiment.

Did I miss something? ;-)

cheers & happy racing,

uwe

Is it really due out in September or is that just a hope?  It would make an
assume birthday present even if I have to buy it for myself. :)

Why the pre-patched Rally Trophy?
Thanks!

Richard Burns Rally is coming next month.  It's so much better than any
other rally sim (including Rally Trophy) that it's not funny.  The demo is
supposed to be out in about 2 weeks.  It might not run too well though if
you've got an aging PC.

As Uwe said, if you're into F1, you can't go past F1 Challenge 99-02.  The
unofficial 2004 season add-on is excellent.

I can't explain really, but I always thought the driving was better
pre-patch, but I guess that's a matter of taste.

Cheers,

I forget who it was, but they claimed the BETA driving was far superior
to the dumbed down model that shipped.   They had driven a Mini or
something and it felt wonderful, bought the retail product and couldn't
believe how much it changed...for the worse according to whomever it was.

Im right there with you Uwe. The pre-patched RT was superior to me.
This is the first time i see anyone saying that.

And yes, its quite hard to distinct why is it so. But for example
driving Lancia Stratos (RWD) was far more enjoyable pre-patch.

I quess i stopped playing RT right there. Just because driving the
"old" version would have felt silly but then again the postpatched
really was silly :)

Cheers,
LM
