GTP Heat steering...(long)

by JoeB3 » Tue, 24 Jun 2003 07:57:49

Wanted to share some things and ask a few questions. After unsucessfully
searching many local stores for Nascar Heat, I finally found a boxed copy on
the close out rack at Electronics Botique for $3.99, I was thrilled. I
downloaded the no CD patch and upgrade (1.72e) for the game and promptly go
everything installed and running. I then downloaded the GTP heat mod from the
PORRS site ( THANK YOU to everyone who was involved with creating the GTP
patch, I love the GTP cars) and the Lime Rock Park track. I installed the mod
and track and was ready to go racing. All went well and I was up and racing.
The only issue I can't seem to iron out is the steering. I have a WIngman
Formula GP wheel that is configured properly and works correctly in other
driving games. In GTP heat, on the LRP track, I cannot seem to make the car
(any car) turn "enough". I tried changing many of the settings and testing but
none seemed satisfactory. Can anyone recommend a good steering setup (dead
spot, over shoot, non-linear steering, supersampling, smoothing, etc) for this
mod?? Also how does the option RS shifter and 4 speed differ?  Any and all help
is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe B.

Heat gets all of it's controller info directly from Windows so make
sure your wheel is fully functioning there first and you are getting full
travel.

Then go to the options screens and configure your controller.  Make
sure when you move the wheel to it's full extent the onscreen wheel reaches
the end of it's travel.  You can get more movement by increasing the
overshoot slider.  Deadzone for the wheel set to  zero and for linearity
move the slider full left(no orange bar showing)  You may want a tiny bit
of deadzone on the brake pedal to guarentee that the brakes are not
dragging.

Finally go into the setup and increase the steering ratio.(it's called
Wheel Lock)
