Intel changing the Celeron

Intel changing the Celeron

While admittedly off topic, the Celeron gets a lot of coverage here so I
thought it appropriate to let everyone know that Intel is changing the pin
layout of the Celeron by Jan 14th 1999.  After that date they will STOP
making the Slot 1 and move to a package that looks like the Socket 7 - but
of course isn't.  This is their attempt at stopping the overclocking of this
chip since they'll be the ONLY ones making this motherboard.
Anyone contemplating a Celeron should consider getting it BEFORE they
change the pin layout or you'll be tied to whatever Intel does with the
Celeron.  At least with Slot 1 you have the ability to move to a "full" P2
later.
I'm tellin' ya guys, my 300A o/c'd to 450 has been rock solid and the
best $200 I've spent on my computer yet (counted motherboard AND CPU).

its called socket 370 I beleive and several motherboard manufacturers will
have a socket 370 to slot one converter,  that you just drop the  new
Celleron (PGA socket 370) into and then put that into the slot one socket,
available by then. Abit already has one available. So those already with
slot one that want to upgrade will be ok....
