I haven't bought the game yet and from what I hear I probably won't. It
sounds like you have a P2 300 or better with either a Nivida or AGP card and
huge amounts of ram. I have a P 166 mmx 64 meg of ram and a 4 meg Orchaid
Righteous 3dfx card and a basic 2 meg card. Having to run low res with a
3dfx is very stupid if you ask me and I'm not going to go spend 300 bucks a
a vodoo 2 for one game. Also from what I have heard from fellow Burnout
testers only place NHRA has us beat at is sound and actual physics model and
we have NHRA beat in car setup options and being more user and machine
freindly. You also have to remeber Burnout is a Dos game and NHRA is a
windows game. Burnout PCE will be out soon and not to long after that
Burnout 2. But overall I think I'll stay with Burnout for now until I find a
extra 2500 bucks for a new system.

NOT Low resolution like VGA.. they mean Low Texture, the same thing many
people do in Nascar2 3dfx... or Quake2, or Unreal, or all this non-racing
(IMHO boring hehe) game.

Actually, Im quite happy they decided to go with a multitude of 3d cards for
it.  It shows that the war between 3d cards ain't finished yet, and that's
good for each and every of us in the fact that the technology moves faster
(better, faster) in those situations.

So you wouldn't buy Nascar2 you tell me because it ain't supporting a 3dfx
card very good ??

Low res is 16 bit apparently which is all the 3dfx card can do. I don't
think they are talking 300x200x16 here. Are you sure you know what
you are talking about?

and

You are a tester for burnout and are slamming NHRA? WTF is that
all about? I'm thinking NHRA may suck too, but still you have to be
pretty stupid to do what you are apparently doing. DUH.

And you get another DUH for making light of the fact that NHRA
has "us" beat in actual physics. I thought burnout sucked so bad,
I returned the next day. Right, you can build cars that are so
unrealistic it isn't even funny. What a bunch of candy-asses.

Wow your game loads the menus faster. That is really something.
Shit you know what? I may have to go to a local Electronic Boutique
(so I can return it if it really sucks) and try NHRA like I always intended
to do. If I can't get my T2 pedals working, that will certainly be grounds
for return. I will also have to wonder what the hell Trevor Thomas
was contributing to the project. Working gas & brake pedals
seem pretty straight forward to me. Especially since HE BUILDS
THEM FOR A LIVING!!!!!

Greg,

The sim isn't all that bad...IMHO the company released it too soon
and crippled, but overall an excellent effort.  If you're a stickler
for realism, but don't mind the menus, then you may find it worth
keeping.  I know I'll never beat most of the hot shoes on the 'net,
hell - I don't really care-much for 3-seconds worth of racin', but
NHRA's a good one in my book.

Cheers!

Marc

Well if it works decently (i.e. good graphics) with my
3dfx VooDoo board, and the gas & brake pedals
*DO* work then I'll probably be happy.

Low res textures doesn't mean that the textures are 16 bit, 16 bit is just
the color depth. Low res textures would be just that, textures of a lower
resolution. Color depth, 16 or 24 bit, and texure resolution are completely
unrelated.

Kyle
