It starts up goes to the point where you choose the mode, but only get the
red hand no menu?   Don't know of any changes to my system that should
effect it.

Looks like you accidentally installed the leaked 1.5 patch which
requires mandatory subscription at a small monthly fee. ;^)

Seriously, no idea what could be causing this. Do you see any disk
activity in this state? Anything in your system event log (disk
failure, whatever)? Does other SW on the same drive still work?
