I had the same sentiments as many other people when I first got NFS2
because it ran much more slowly than NFS on my system (P166, 32 meg
ram, Diamond Stealth 64). But, I started messing with my BIOS
settings and discovered that I had a setting wrong that controlled the
speed at which my memory was accessing. I changed this setting and my
system speed increased about 35% according to several benchmarks. I
also got the newest version of the drivers for my video card and lo
and behold, NFS2 is now JUST AS FAST on my system as the original.
Since Win95 is more taxing on your system than DOS and a game like
NFS2 has pretty hefty requirements, it may uncover shortcomings in
your system that you did not know were there. It is not the game's
fault. There are still several things in the game that I would have
done differently, but the framerate is something that I no longer
complain about. I do not recommend messing with your BIOS settings if
you don't know what you are doing because you can easily render your
system unusable. If you do know how to set your BIOS, though, I would
recommend checking it to make sure everything is optimized for best
performance before bashing NFS2 for being slow.
Just my .02....
