After looking at Huttu's 7.54.60 lap at the ring in the Ferrari, one thing
is clear:

Mika Hakkinen ->OUT
Greger ->IN

:-)

I'm still shaking...I still can't believe it. His special skills with the
pedals are unique for sure. So are the others...

Congrats!

well about 8,000 hours of practice where you have no fear of dieing may help a
bit...
don't even ask what my lap times are,  I have a great deal of admiration for
Greger

The ring has become somewhat of an obsession for me... It's been over six
months since I raced any of the other tracks i GPL, except for the odd
session at Monza to try out new setup ideas. I find all the other tracks
quite boring now actually :-) Racing around the ring brings back memories of
the glorious summer we had,*** my Ducati around local roads here in
Sweden..

I thought I was mighty quick with a 8:16 in the Ferrari until I saw someone
broke the 8 minute barrier quite a while back... Made me feel kind of
silly... :-)

How the hell am I going to take 20 seconds out of that lap.... ;-)

I'm also at 8.16 in the ferrari, can't beat it at all. I just love blasting
over the blind hills, hoping the corner coming up was the one you were
expecting.......

Hehe, well thanks Hans-Otto. :) It was surely one of my best laps if
not the best. I was "in the zone" on that one. <G>

Easier for you to get 20 seconds off an 8 minute lap than for me to get 15+
seconds off Spa (3:29.x)

Eldred
p.s. if it makes you feel any better, I still can't break the *11* minute
barrier at the Ring...

"In the zone" yeah you could say that for sure! That Ferrari lap impresses
me more than the 7.52.60 of the Lotus.
By the looking at your work behind the wheel in the Ferrari you seemed to
struggle more to get it smooth there :-)
I've modified my Dexxa pedals to split-axis now see if I can get better with
them I'm down to my earlier times now but the travel of the pedals are to
big (I'll fix that) so I can't get lower yet, but hell it's alot more
relaxed to drive with split-axis anyway!

Happy Chrismas and a Good New Year!

Yeah, that might help. :)

Just try to drive some laps *easy*, brake early and concentrate on the
exit from the corners. Don't take any risks. That way you'll get those
sub-9 min laps almost automatically. :)

Oh yeah, it's recommended to use 4-inch ride height.

You did?
I'd be interested to hear about that,as I am planning to
do the same to my Dexxa set,but I'm still gathering courage
to open them up......

Sure, the Ferrari lap was better. The Lotus is capable of doing at
least a 7:51 so that 7:52.40 wasn't so good. :)

It really helps on some corners and I'm sure you can improve your
laptimes...

You too. :)

Robert, first of all I have to say that I use a combination of the Logitech
Wingman Formula Force and the Dexxa pedals in my setup. And as I
have two dexxa wheels I chose to experiment with one of the sets. If
you are planning to use the wheel together with the pedals, my way of
doing it is NOT suitable for you. You should in any case buy another
Dexxa set as the pedals alone are worth the money. I have had them
for ages and they are still as good as new. The only drawback is that
they have to be mounted on a solid base because of their light weight.

I did the rewiring job in about 30 minutes but I haven't put down on
paper exactly how I did it, but here is a resume:

I used a male 15 pin joystick plug and some signalwire I had lying around
and connected the GAS pot to the JOYSTICK 1 Y-AXIS and
the BRAKE pot to the JOYSTICK 2 Y-AXIS on the SBLive Soundcard.
Then I connected a 10K resistor instead of a JOYSTICK 1 X-AXIS pot
and another 10K resistor instead of the JOYSTICK 2 X-AXIS pot on
the SBLive so the Win98 joystick panel accepts the loop as a
controller.
Then I configured the pedals using a custom 3-axis 0 button setup in the
Win98 joystick panel. The Logitech wheel runs through the USB
system and is configured as "Combined Axis".
The pedals are ID1 and the Logitech is ID2 and everything works
perfectly well. The pots in the pedals are 150K so the range,
smoothness and feel is superb for GPL. It also worked with Nascar 3
after some fiddling around with the controller settings in the game.
It's wise to get a wiring diagram of the SBLive Joystick connector to
clearly see how to do this done, but it's fairly simple :-) I used a
diagram I had in a VERY old SBPro manual.

Regards,
Hans-Otto

Where can i see the replay of this wonderful lap of yours?
I was still shaken by Ian Lake's 7:57 sometime ago, but 7:54 is
awesome, well done!
I have been stuck on same time for a while now (I won't say what it
is, not in view of humiliating 7:54) driving the Lotus. I can never go
further than 6, 8 laps in training as by then my arms are no longer
able to move themselves.
Maybe I should try the Ferrari...
 Never mind...

Mauricio.

Would say the Dexxa pedals are better than the CH Pedals connected
through a PDPI L4?

Mauricio.

Hans-Ott

The KING of the RING!

by Hans-Ott » Sun, 26 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I've just seen pictures of the the CH pedals and they seem to be designed
for the hole area of the foot while the dexxa pedals are designed for only
the front part which I like. When I checked the prize for the CH pedals they
costed 3 times as much as the dexxa pedals which also included a wheel :-)
As a matter of fact I've done some small modifications to the internals of
the dexxa wheel and I've done a 1.26.1 at monaco with it which is far from
what I can do with my old TM GP1 wheel. The only drawbacks for me with the
dexxa is that I had to modify it so it got more harder to turn and it's lack
of FF which I like.
When it comes to the PDPI L4 my computer is filled up with cards so I can't
use it anyway :-) The only thing I know for sure is that I the Logitech
pedals is useless for me and the dexxa pedals is very nice to drive with.

Happy New Year!
Hans-Otto
