The defaults are hard coded into the YADR2 program. The values are the
same as those for the NASCAR 1 version - where 850 wasn't too bad. I
generally don't set any drivers to "winner" in YADR2 - although this is
what it implies - a car set to winner usually wins. I have experimented
with Talladega and cars set to "great". With the new Talladega AI you can
keep pace with a "great" car (assuming you can turn laps at 194+) - so long
as you don't loose the draft. A "great" car will - however, be able to
drive under you into turn 1 - making for lots of side by side stuff. A
"winner" will drive away from you at Talladega and I have set NO drivers to
"winner" there. The numbers for restrictor plate tracks were of course
changed for N2 (to be the same as super speedway) - since the numbers used
for N1 had very low power ratings and required a bump in rels= to
compensate (this was to simulate the plates in the AI cars and allow you to
keep pace on the restarts).
You can experiment by editing the .TXT files in the cars directory with
Excel or a text editor. This will display the settings as CUSTOM in YADR2
- but will help you find a good range. You should post a suggestion of
what you think better defaults will be along with your consistent lap times
at a few tracks. For example a "great" driver is bit fast for me at Dover
- although if I really drive a good line and can keep up and even pass a
"great" driver. A "winner" will lap me after a while. However, this might
be realistic. I turn laps at Dover consistently around 150 mph - which is
a little off the pace. Lap times of 152+ should be possible (per real WC)
and I have seen lap times as high as 158 posted by others - although I
doubt anyone is turning 158 consistently. So a winner should lap someone
turning 150 laps.
If there is demand - YADR2 could be changed to import from a defaults
files. This might make editing driver strengths a bit easier with custom
values.
Thanks for the feedback - hope we get save race weekend soon so we can use
the qualification option and get some of the really good drivers qualifying
mid pack and race through the pack. Currently the leaders tend to just
run away - especially at Talladega. I would enjoy seeing Dale Earnhardt
come through the field from 30th position. This would also help in
determining whether the Talladega AI patch is working correctly.
