track modelling question

by Uwe Schürkam » Fri, 23 Jul 2004 03:54:58

Hi folks,

I've been thinking about modelling a track based in my home town for a
long time, and I think it would be a very challenging street circuit
which is also fun to drive.

My question is: if you'd start with track modelling from scratch,
would you model for

- gpl
- n200x
- f1c
- racer?

Are there any tools available that help with the
task of placing objects, texturing, curbing, camber, circuit design? A
while ago I found a blender tutorial for track making, and the one
great thing about blender is that it's available for linux (my work
environment), so I'd be happy to hear about any other tools that
either are available for Linux natively or run in WINE so I could use
them.

Thanks in advance & looking forward to hearing from you,

uwe

track modelling question

I'd go for N2003 or GPL.  There seems so be a lot more info available in the
forums.  But thats just a personal preference.:-)   Haven't got the hang of
3ds max good enough yet to attempt tracks for f1c, though I've been asked to
convert Symmons and Baskerville.  Will try it eventually(when I get time)
And I haven't even looked at making tracks for Racer.

If it came to a choice between N2k3 and GPL, I'd go for N2K3.  Theres the
track making program from Papy called Sandbox and the other private project
called Centreline.  Both are very good and both have their advantages and
drawbacks.  Both available from The Pits.

whether those run in Linux, I couldn't tell you.  I'm still trying to get
Nascar and GPL to run using WINE:-)

hope that helps

cheers

Steve
