Hmm, not really. They are all action games, but there is too big a difference
between FPS and third-person games. I didn't buy MP only because it is the latter.

Your mouse has moved. Windows must be restarted for the change
to take effect. Reboot now?

Yeah, maybe it's time for a new TLA (three letter acronym). I haven't played
any of the Tomb Raider series, but from what I know of it I agree with you,
it isn't a FPS because it's more of a puzzle-solving game. MP satisfies the
"PS" part for sure. Lotsa person-shooting going on...

I got MP for my kid (9) and he likes it but sez it's too short/easy.  I was
impressed by the 'atmospherics' (sound & gfx production values); it really
does feel like the streets of NYC (where I was born & raised).  It's not a
FPS, and the 3rd-person view disorients me, like driving GPL f. the F10
view.  I don't experience life from an out-of-body perspective...do you?
Among FPS', I like Counter-Strike for its weapons realism & Unreal
Tournament for its fast & furious action.  The forthcoming Red Faction (to
be released mid-Sept.) also looks promising.

I tried the demo for RF and it was "ok", so I am biased as to whether I
will buy it or not.
On another note, I also tried the demo for No One Lives Forever recently
and thought it was really good, so I broke down and bought it. It is a
very excellent FPS with a great story line, many hours of gameplay, and
stealth is a needed tactic instead of just killing everyone.

Err...stealth is entirely optional :)  My dad played NOLF all the way
through without any stealth and the alarm blarring away all the time, for
which there are hardly any consequences, since there's easily enough health
and ammo to kill every enemy in the game.  Thief + Thief 2, now there's a
series where you need stealth.

Not "entirely" optional, as many of the missions require you to either
not be detected, or no alarm can sound. If they do the mission fails and
you need to reload a saved game.
Yes the Thief series rules. :)

Why not try Operation Flash Point? It's really great and more "sim-like",
you have to think before shoot.

Cheers,

Yes; sorry I forgot NOLF.  It's charming, witty, and intelligent.  A far cry
from the mindless shoot-em-up '*** simulators' that comprise most FPS's.

Yes, Thief was great.  It's hard to believe a company as talented as Looking
Glass (also responsible for the excellent Flight Unltd.) could go TU.

'Cuz the gfx, motion capture & acting are amateurish?
