(Without taking the effort to check their online programming guide in
advance,) I was hoping that Speedvision would show the FIA Rally Recap
Marathon today, and I'm pleased to see that they did not disappoint.

viva la speedvision! (or something)

Amen to that.  It was the holiday present of the season for me.
Watching it right now makes me wonder, again, if these guys aren't the
best drivers in the world, overall.

I just watched some Rally Racing on SV.

I've come to one conclusion.

These Rally guys are absolutely, totally NUTS!

"Turn 1.  10 meters.  Watch the 10,000 foot cliff.  Turn 2.  20 meters.
Watch the by-standers on the track, and the 20,000 foot cliff on the right."

"Ooops, we rolled over.  Ok, we're going again.  Wait, we're still falling
off that 10,000 foot cliff.  20 meters.  THONK!  We bent a wheel."

LOL!

lol. It's a pretty scary sight seeing it in person. I saw a guy fall off a
10 foot bridge in real life and was stuck upside down in the stream, but
they were okay.

Thanks,
Alex

Think again.  Speedvision (soon to be "The Speed Channel," i.e., NASCAR
24/7) just gutted the Website--the most widely-read general-interest auto
racing site on the planet.  It cost too much, and, hey, gomers don't read
anyway.

Yea I have to agree with you, those guy's are nut's. I watched it too and
was very impressed by the coverage and on board camera shot's. Especially
the shot of the guy sliding on his roof, because that's normally how I end
up in a N4 online race so I could relate.Wouldn't it be cool if we could put
a second person in the N4 cars? Put the team owner or crew chief with the
driver. I wonder if that would change any driving styles? lol

Rats, I didn't know about that.  I'm not a big rally fan, but that would have
been interesting to watch...

Gutted?  I've been checking it out and it doesn't look gutted to me?
Perhaps it was down for maint over the holidays?
Speedvision has already announced expanded Rally coverage for 2002.
I'll try to find the link, but the pres of SV has done a good job of
allying alot of our fears.  SV will probably dump shows like "Ship
Shape" before anything else.
It was a bit worrying, though, that most of the advertising during the
last part of the marathon was classic car ads and PSA's.

I'm bummed I missed the Rally marathon - I've become ***ed this
year.  I wish *someone* would make good modern Rally sim for the PC.
I can't wait for Rally Trophy in the US - but it sounds like the
stages are somewhat lacking in length and technical challenge.

Kent,

Perhaps I spoke too soon.  But it *will* happen.  I'm not called Cassandre
for nothing (stiletto heels, leather bustiers, and my perfect
pencil-sharpener***to the contrary notwithstanding).

There is a perfectly good modern rally sim: Mobil 1 Rally Championship.
Excellent graphics, tactile feedback, and tweakable physics.  There's also
CMR2 and a bunch of others.  Rally Trophy sounds interesting...if you like
Fiat-Abarth 600s and Volvo PV544s.
