Hey Txl,
Have you noticed the difference in steering precision since you changed the
steering sweep on your Force RS?

Yep, I have been able to go to a slightly less linear setting but my times
haven't been improving lately....

correction, my PB just went from 1.27 to 1.24 in kyalami...

I know it's still f...k slow, but it's an improvement for me, especially
considering the time I've spent on this track, I'm a big SPA fan...

Txl, How's the RS feel

Wow, that's great. What a feeling it is to run a few laps and beat your
previous pb each time around. Congratulations!  Steering precision on these
wheels is a very under rated spec, and not understood by many. That's
probably because you hardly feel or see it while racing, but it translates
into faster laps. For example, I like the smooth feel of the LWFF, but when
running GPL (or other games) I simply turn faster laps with the Ferrari or
Force RS. The LWFF doesn't have the steering resolution of these other
wheels. The Ferrari and Force RS have the same high resolution, but the RS,
in stock form, spreads it out over a 270 arc. A good marketing ploy because
it sounds better than 180, but for racing it just kills the precision.  Once
you get used to your new setup, a stock wheel will feel very vague in the
middle of the steering range.
A larger wheel diameter also makes it harder to drive as fast on road
courses. It might look better and feel more like a real car, but it's not
good for sim racing. To drive with a larger wheel you need to react sooner
and need more rim velocity in turning to keep the tangent velocity the same
as a smaller wheel. But that's getting a bit off  topic......

Well if you take into account that you NEED to have a fast reaction when you
have a "problem" it is much more efficient to have a small and fast wheel,
in fact if you look at the inboard videos of racing cars (or trucks) you see
that they make small movements but very quickly.

Are you going to do a section on your web page on this with pictures?
I would love to do this, but I am leary of screwing it up.

Honestly it's VERY easy, even I could make it without destroying anything...

You just have to open up the wheel, turn the steerin to see the BIG block on
the steering column, drill 2 holes that will come in the path of the
steering column and put 2 bolts and nuts there....they will block the wheel
before the little plastic things that are there in the first place and that
I broke...

Hi Steve,
It is a pretty straight forward mod like Txl said, but the next time I have
the wheel apart I'll take pictures and do an article on it. I don't know
when that will be.

Txl, How's the RS feel

Aha, this sounds like what just happened to me (see post re: I never
thought I'd ask this etc.).

In my case, I felt one side had lost it's bump stop, then steering was
all over the place, turns out I'd broken the spindle on the pot.

Hopefully I'll be getting the Force RS repaired. As I'm in the UK
and it can take 2weeks + to get stuff (maybe able to get a stock
pot to replace it with sooner) and I want a wheel asap. I've opted
to pick up a Ferarri wheel.

GTX, I had a look around your site for info, some good stuff on
the Ferrari but was hoping to find some recommendations on
setting it up (for GPL) in Control panel and core.ini

Any advice?
I like it fairly subtle (the FF not the advice .. LOL)

Cheers

Maxx

Maxx, there's quite a large section on setting up the wheel in GPL. Check
under Controller and Game settings.

I removed all 100 screws last night and took a look. I am ASSuMing
that I drill two holes in the front 'dash' and install some haevy duty
bolts that will not give. That block the path of the arm. Is this
correct. I hope I do not sound too stupid, I just do not want to***
this up!
