Not being a Papy clone could in many ways be a good thing too.  Expand

No its a trick all development companies are using to try and cut
down on illegal copies. By having to grab a patch on the net immediately
it gives them a lot of information. Plus the crackers in their rush to get
the product out first will usually take their time in going back to redo
the patches. If the game has MP the illegals won't be able to play online
until they get the patch that all the honest users have. Temporary measure
of course. We all no Papy products are patch free. :-)

Papy-Nazi's are out to get you DW! We all know a Papy-Nazi
can see no evil, hear no evil but they will speak it. :-)

First played Nascar Racing in 1994.

Still waiting for another company to develop a racing simulation.

I actually had high expectations for Heat, and was very impressed when it
first came out - then when it was obvious mulitplayer was not something they
were going to expand on, I gave up on it. It could have had great potential
in that department.

Me too Don.  I don't know what pissed me off more; the lousy online aspect
of Heat, or the lame excuses that were given for it, that were obvious lies.
Then I remember them saying, "Stay tuned, we have big plans for improving
the online play"....................nothing happened of course.

=)

By the way, I have to agree with you guys about being disappointed
with Heat.  I was a huge Viper Racing fan back before I had a machine
that could run GPL and I was really e***d about MGI taking that sim
to the next level.  Of course, aside from the weak multiplayer, they
also added an odd grip model (pavement with monster grip from the wall
to the apron, then suddenly no grip at all on the same surface) and
never really had the same quality of damage modelling as Viper did.
If Viper had a better***pit view, actually, I think I'd still play
it.

There are other games have mistakenly convinced me to like them for a
few weeks.  I've logged tons of time in stuff like Rally Trophy, Rally
Masters, DTR and DTR:SC, Rally Championship, F1 2000, F1 2001, and
SCGT and I always end up less than satisfied and coming back to the
Papy sims.  I think it says something that I've chewed through so many
racing games in the past year or two alone and yet I can still put GPL
in and find new challenges - and that's not counting the hundreds of
addon tracks which I haven't spent much time with at all.

Being a complete and utter sucker, I bought Master Rallye and I'm sure
going to get the Hooters USAR game of course.  I can always add it to
my museum of mediocre racing games. =)
